Free Amish heater in Houston Chron. NOT FREE

Today's Chron had a full page color ad on the last page of section A. After reading the ad, which states you can receive 2 FREE Amish heaters I called the number. In the ad it states that if you want to build your own hearth you will have to pay $249.99 for each heater, however if you want to get the Amish build hearth the heaters are free. When I called, it right away sounded like a sales pitch. After listening to the lady she finally said that each heater is free but the Amish built cherry and oak hearth would be $249 each!!! I said well that isn't exactly free is it? She said the heaters are free. Well, I see this a SCAM. Even the Amish are resorting to scamming people now. That is just terrible.

The "rest of the story" is that these aren't Amish heaters. The hearths are Amish built, but the heaters are simple electric heaters from China.

Eh, that's a bit far fetched. I don't think the Amish have the resources to pull something like this off. I doubt they can afford these full page color newspaper ads from selling handmade blankets and what have you ...

Well, considering that they are charging $250.00 for a small wooden 'hearth' for this heater I'd say they could easily afford the ads. I bet the hearth has no more than $40.00 of materials (probably not even that much).

The question would be who the hell buys this at 250 dollars and why do they have to trick customers to do it.

The Amish do word work like this for hire. But, I thought that the company that is marketing this is some east Asia scam artist.
