do they monitor peer to peer programs such as bittorrent
Verizon doesn't monitor your uploads, but the feds might:
»blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/0···r-f.html

Also, you might review VZ's Terms of Service (TOS):
»www2.verizon.net/policies/tos.asp
and the following threads:
»TOS, AUP, Bit Torrents & Servers, & Bad URL Redirect
»New TOS / AUP: What's "high volume purposes"?

Also this thread regarding bittorrent and NAT table size in the Actiontec:
»[northeast] actiontec MI424WR NAT Error: connection pool is full

said by Scott724 :

do you have to use there router like i said i will just be getting the internet service??
That is answered in this FAQ:
»/faq/12374
Be sure to request a cat-5 connection from the ONT if you are going to use your own router, or you will be forced to place your router behind the Actiontec because the standard installation is now coax (MOCA) from the ONT.

edit: Added reference to NAT table thread.
