What you're referring to is called 'channel bonding' and it was a technology that gave you almost ISDN speeds (128Kbps up) with a pair of modems, assuming you had 2 clean phone lines to get two good connections.

Most ISP's backed away from supporting this as DSL and cable superseded ISDN and dialup. I checked with my dialup provider awhile ago and they abandoned channel bonding in favor of faster cable service. If your ISP doesn't support channel bonding you won't be able to use it no matter how many modems you use.
