| SSID hiding and interference?
I was reading that hiding your SSID creates interference to other wireless networks.
»nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/d···sid.html
#1 Is that really true?
#2 If that is true, and if I wanted to verify that, how would I verify it?

But to answer your question there is no more or less interference from an AP with SSID broadcast disable then from any other AP. Multiple APs on the same channel can interfere with each other and degrade throughput. Doesn't matter at all if one or both APs are not broadcasting their SSIS |

Having another network on the same channel causes interference. Hiding your SSID make it harder for your neighbors to see what channel you are on, and therefore makes it harder for them to avoid the interference.
At least, that's my read of what your cited link says. My own guess is that most of your neighbors wouldn't go to that much trouble (to avoid interference), so it probably doesn't matter.
In any case, the main point is that there is little benefit in hiding your SSID. -- AT&T dsl; Westell 327w modem/router; SuSE 10.1; firefox 2.0.0.12 |

Which, is what I suspected. |

Except of course the neighbors would let the box choose its own channel (the "auto" setting should be the default on virtually all home wireless devices) so the box would see the AP with the "hidden" SSID and avoid that channel. |

Considering there is no benefit to "hiding" your SSID does it matter? The benefit is that hiding your SSID keeps your retard neighbor's machines from auto associating and trying to authenticate over and over and over and over.
If you had said "Considering there is no security benefit to "hiding" your SSID..." I would have agreed with you. |
