| That's an awesome site.
Sad to see how many areas have gone under. We drive by Maple Valley on our way to Stratton. Last I heard, that was for sale for 1.5mil. Hogsback is another one just being overgrown. That's on the way to Mt. Snow. -- Legal ATVing in Connecticut? |

Lift tickets cost $3
I have many fond memories of this place too »www.nelsap.org/ma/brodie.html
Jiminy Peak bought Brodie and shut it down (the bastids!) It had a real New England feel with the pine slab paneled lodge with it's giant pine slab indoor picnic tables, and the mountain, not the slick sheet rock and plastic of Jiminy, but that's just my $02. Jiminy's hill is great for that far south. The place just doesn't have the heart & soul Brodie did, even with it's ancient snail paced lifts.
If Brodie was still open, I would have skied this year. I know that's weird, but so be it. ``````````````````````````````````````` Some New England ski trivia - Snow making is reported to have been invented at Mohawk in Cornwall, CT. Mohawk is still in operation. »www.mohawkmtn.com/CMX/index.php
There is another story that Jake Burton developed his first snow board and first rides on it at Mohawk, while he was a student at nearby Marvelwood School. Don't know how true that one is. |

| I went there for a weekend once on a "Junior Achievement" trip in High School...I remember it was the first time I ever drank blackberry brandy...
I vaguely remember TRYING to learn how to ski that trip...

| reply to MrsFixitCT I raced at Brodie a few times back in the day. I remember hearing a scary story about the brake on the lift failing once and a few people went for a nasty ride around the bull wheel. No one died, but a few were injured badly before they were able to stop it. This must have been a good 15 years ago.
Brodie was also famous for it's green snow on St. Patty's Day. Shame the place is now closed.
I'd love to revive an old small ski area and run it. I think that would be a pretty cool endeavour. -- Legal ATVing in Connecticut? |
