| [Connectivity] trouble with downloads and surfing
I'm in San Anselmo, CA 94960
I'm experiencing download problems. This has been going on for several days now. With some links the wait time is very long, I have found that reloading over and over eventually gets it done. One site will refuse to download, at the same time another site will work just fine. When it works it is as fast as usual. Some pages won't load any of the graphics at all. When I started this post I was running "ping -t google.com" and getting a packet loss of 14%. Now my packet loss is at 0% and things are working fine, but I don't expect it to last. Help?!
I have a Linksys BEFCMU10 Standard Specification Compliant DOCSIS 1.1 Hardware Version 3.0 Software Version 1.1.5 (unsigned_befcmu10_115-1015.bin) Cable Modem MAC Address 00:06:25:B0:59:FA Cable Modem Serial Number KBG2428026 CPE-end Interface Ethernet + USB CM certificate Certificate Not Installed
I have a Linksys router BEFW11s4 ver.4 with two PCs
I use Avast v4.7 for virus and Comodo 2.4.18.184 for firewall
These are my signal levels:

my cable comes out of the wall and into the modem, no known splitters (I don't do TV)
I haven't downloaded pingplotter yet. |

1 edit | got that over here in berkeley/oakland etc., too, and it's a weird issue.
signals are great:
Downstream Power - +0.3 dBmV SNR - 34.1 dBmV
Upstream Power - 43.0 (steady)
....
i have tv, no issues with that (regular cable or digital). Ping time has been amazingly high to just about every website -
dslreports.com - is a 100 ms ping - usually in the 40's (i think)
apple.com - just as good as the average ping - about 20-30 ms
cnet.com 65 ms lowest ping (SF based company, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's an SF server)
....
overall, the internet is very sluggish. not to much fun to use, i'll tell ya that.

| reply to ukemike -8.24 dBmv downstream power is technically within spec, but it wouldn't hurt for that to be closer to 0 dBmv. More important, 55 dBmv upstream power is somewhat high. Since you believe you have no splitters, perhaps a tech visit is called for to improve things. |
