Re: proprietory apple Although apple is party responsible for the shortcomings of the IPhone, but I'd blame ATT this time around.
You can't do VOIP over an anemic EDGE network. Now if Apple would have gone with Sprint, we would have already been using VoIP.
Even my 2 year old PPC6700 phone can do 800-1.1mbit. The most I've seen on edge is 130k... now that's sad. |

Exactly, Windows Mobile is a proper OS (lets not go there) that doesn't get locked down at the whim of each carrier. I'm going to guess (don't know these too well) that Symbian and Palm also are proper OSes with open APIs which aren't arbitrarily limited by phone manufacturers or cell carriers. |

I've been a sprint customer for 11 years. I have 3 sprint phones under my account. I have an ATT crackberry from work which I pulled its SIM card from and popped it in an 8gig iPhone I picked up from my coworker for 200 bucks.
More so... I have a verizon data card in my work backpack. The only network I don't get to play with is T-Mo's.
I asked a buddy of mine to lend me try his tmo sim on my iphone... i had to get near the window to get signal... so T-mo's crap to me. |
