Is Turbotax 2007 safe to use?

I have been reading the forum and I saw several posts about Turbotax containing c-dilla spyware back in 2002. Is Turbotax spyware-free these days or is there still a spyware/privacy issue?

Also how safe is it to e-file online through Turbotax? Any advice or comments would be much appreciated.

I've used Turbotax for several years (including 2002) and have not had a problem with it, but I don't use it any longer. I've always printed my return and mailed it. I have any refund direct deposited to checking account (gets my money faster).
Just be careful when installing it. Make sure you don't select any special options or services (like newsletters etc). You don't want to install anything else but Turbo itself.
Overall, I found it a great program. You can also do returns for other members of your family too. It is not limited to just a few returns as far as I recall.
Good luck. Hope this info helps.

I've used it for over ten years with e-file as soon as that was supported. No problems. I still use it today for my business taxes and my quarterly estimated payments as I'm self employed.

Yeah its safe to use. There is just one problem. I filed my 2006 returns with it and when I went to my CPA to file 2007 he said lets check your 2006 return just for chuckles. It turned out that with TT I had gotten back $1200 less than I should have gotten (something to do with AMT). So after that scare I'll be going to the CPA for a while.

I agree...I go to the CPA because I have a LLC and personal taxes to file, it's easier to go to the CPA rather than spending hours figuring out how to properly file my LLC schedule form and keep up tax laws. Let the CPA do it.

The last year I used it was the the year of the C-Dilla fiasco. They lost me forever as a customer after that.

No problems here. Got my state refund in one week (last Friday). The program works well -- just make sure you let it update itself after you install -- there are always lots of changes/fixes to the various forms.

TT has a web based application as well. So no need to download and/or install software on your pc.

I've got saved returns going back to '96 using TT ..

As for TT, I've always considered it as being one of "those" programs which justify owning a computer.

edit: Oh yeah .. too, I've been on Intuit's TT "auto-purchase/mail" program for years.

I think it's ok but overall, I dislike Intuit. (How's that for being open minded? )

A word of caution... at one time, TT kept the taxpayer's personal info (name, address, SS) in a file as plain text. Unless that has changed, that is something to keep in mind if the PC is sold, serviced, passed down to one of the kids, etc.
