Right on, since a lot of stations are already transmitting, I'm sure there will be cheaper/better equipment by Feb 2009.

| reply to Rhaas As you know the C block is channel 54 and 59 (I am not an engineer BTW). Channel 59 is Indianapolis' Fox station so until they pull their signal I am sitting on my hands.
I have been looking at SOMA for the cities I cover and Airspan for the more rural areas. How do you like your WaveIP product? I don't know much about them. |

| reply to cptmiles Are you having interference from a local station?
We have been utilizing our C block licenses for nearly 2 years now using WaveIP gear. I still see the noise floor jump to -40 - -50 when the duction conditions are just right that brings in distant signals. We have a couple of licenses such as the one that covers Springfield MO that we cant touch because a local broadcaster is still there and they are still primary holders until the cut off date. |

| reply to gaforces No, I can't do anything with it until the famous Feb date in 2009 when TV goes all digital (interference). I am currently working with 2 vendors trying to decide which technology I am going to deploy. Technically speaking I have until 2017 to build out, but I am not going to wait until the last minute.
The trick is not to be too quick, though. I don't want to put a product in the market on day one that will limit my capabilities in year four.
I am hoping the big boys R&D pays off in the long run for little guys like me who can't afford to put Motorola or Nokia on my payroll. |

| I know a lot of people hate the idea of the bigs getting hold of the spectrum, but lets face it. The little guys can't afford the R&D and advertising needed to make things work on such a large scale. The last time that worked was the old CellOne days. Remember the days that if you were unlucky enough to roam into some podunk territory and you had to pay $6.00 a minute because there was no roaming agreement across the state border.
I hate to say it, but its own (consumer) fault. We want the biggest, brightest, and fastest with the cheapest rate and then bithc because the CEO of the only company that can provide that to us makes more money than most third world countries.
My small company owns the C-block in two rural areas and I am hoping that one of the big boys bought the majority of the spectrum. Otherwise this spectrum will end up in the same file as my LMDS license...In the can. |
