| Problems with loading web pages
I am having a lot of troubles with my FIOS Internet. Very often it won't load web pages and will simply display "Page not available" error. This happens on any pages, even on pages like google.com. After a few refreshes a page will come up and from that moment everything will be loading properly and fast for a while. Then at some point it will die again and I will need to keep re-trying pages until it is alive again. I tried running tracert during such outages -- the results are strange. It may look like:
C:\Documents and Settings>tracert google.com Unable to resolve target system name google.com.
Or:
C:\Documents and Settings>tracert google.com
Tracing route to google.com [64.233.167.99] over a maximum of 30 hops:

| You are showing immediate packet loss. Are you connected wireless or wired to your router?
Have you shut off the router recently? If not, maybe unplug it for 15 secs, plug it back in and see if that helps.
I'd suggest contacting Verizon support instead of screwing around on this too long. -- Tweaked your connection? | Mail Parse | Speed Converter |

| It happens on both wired and wireless connections, no difference. And yes I tried to reboot router: no effect. I also tried to update the firmware: no effect as well.
Does anyone else have any suggestions? I am trying to leave contacting Verizon support for the last resort... |

If not, call support. |

fandre: Does this happen on more than one machine? What OS is involved on said machine(s)? |

| I have been having this problem too. In fact, that's why I'm visiting this board today -- to see if anybody else reported this.
I've had Fios for almost 2 years now, and never had any problem. However, starting a few days ago, I sometimes can not get to any web page. Usually if I just wait 5 minutes the problem fixes itself.
It's not computer specific. We have 4 different computers in the house, and when this happens none of them can reach any websites. However, they still can connect to Yahoo and AIM (both using Trillian). Also, my vonage phone still works fine during this downtime.
To me it sounds like some kind of DNS problem? It seems that things that need to resolve a name don't work, but things that use an IP address directly work fine.
Any advice on what I can check on my end when this happens?
Thanks much for listening..... |

| reply to fandre I have a similar problem, but I lose total connection, everything drops. While playing Xbox it will drop the connections. I spoke to verizon and they said it was my router, so they are sending me a new one out. Still haven't received it, but I dont think it is the router, I will try calling again. |

| reply to fandre I've noticed something similar but it just started happening yesterday. Haven't used it today so I can say if the problem still persists. -- There are 10 types of people that understand binary numbers. Those that do - and those that do not... |

| reply to fandre I have the same problem. Power cycling the router has always fixed the problem for me. I called Verizon and of course they "never heard of this problem". I suspect it's a firmware problem on the Actiontec. If you are having this problem I would encourage you to call Verizon RELENTLESSLY. I know I am going to. Perhaps then they will hear of the problem. |

I reset my router... viola... it works. what kind of F'd up... grrr. I'm somewhat hesistant to convert the actiontec to a bridge but I think I have no choice. |

I've had a problem with that crashing the router. I turn it off and the Actiontec stays up. |

| reply to fandre I'm using a Linksys WRT54GS (the crappy v5 one) since my Verizon-supplied Actiontek died about a week after its warranty expired. I started experiencing weird web page 1/2 loads over the past few days - page after page will start to load then hang halfway finished. It only happens some of the time, but it always affects several pages in a row. But then the next site I try to open will work just fine, while the others continue to spin their wheels. It's driving me crazy. |

| reply to fandre Had a similar problem. In my case I was using the free Sunbelt firewall and Kaspersky AV. My hunch was that the problems were caused by one of these programs because my fresh Vista install had no problems whereas my older xp install had constant browser problems.
My sol'n: uninstall Sunbelt firewall - immediately stuff started working again. I now use Comodo firewall as a replacement.
If this doesn't work I would try uninstalling both s/w firewall and any AV s/w.

| reply to fandre The original topic is drifting, to refocus, the original issue was that intermittently a web page would not load, but would reload if refreshed.
Presumably if this were a firewall issue, then refresh should be as prevented as the original request?
Presumably rebooting the Actiontec/Linksys would leave the intermittent nature of the issue unresolved?
This intermittent web page loading topic was visited a few months ago, and unresolved then as well.
In my case, running Vista via the Actiontec current firmware, this intermittent issue raises its ugly head from time to time. A page refresh will most always work, and in any case it has never taken more than 3 or 4 refreshes to succeed. The Actiontec log shows no errors during these times.
So the issue resolves to one of "where is the request being "lost"?" Since so many of us are seeing this intermittent problem, it is not likely our computers, nor intermittent in home wring issues.
Questions open: 1) Are any non-FIOS customers seeing this intermittent issue? 2) Is there a pattern as to which web sites the intermittent problem is prevalent with? 3) Are any non-Actiontec users seeing this intermitancy? |
