No biz here.
Oh, your profile seemed to mention somethng different. Might want to remove that, under Member Tech Services.

For me ... these are a little more reliable/consistent for connectivity. I'd be having issues if they were running 'N'.
None of these are mine... including the unsecured wireless.

These give me 100Mbps anywhere in my house (85Mbps throughput due to 100Mbps ports)

And obviously you have no working knowledge of right or wrong.
Most of us don't care about right or wrong.Obviously you do, so you're more then welcome not to use free wifi

Most of us don't care about right or wrong.
And that's why the rest of us have speed bumps in residential neighborhoods, and photo radar, and warrantless wiretaps.

Our society has reached a tipping point where enough people can't do "the right thing" without being watched that we have to live down to lower common denominators.

I love speed bumps, just drive over them in suv at regular speed and nothing happenes. Photo radar are easy to win especially when they are issued on business vehicle name. So all of those are fine by me.

I think the saving a few bucks a month was an added bonus. I'm guessing he just wanted to see if he could do it.

Very cool idea though.

I hope it was something legal. You could cause a lot of problems for you neighbors. It never really crossed my mind to use somebody's connection on a regular basis. I do carry a laptop in my work van and sometimes I will connect to look up a place but that's it.

I just did a site survey with my laptop and there was a lot of connections and most of them were secured. Some were not. My neighbor across the street has an open network. I will tell him to secure it. Really nice guy.

I see an AT&T peeking on top of the rack.

In my book if you can do all this you deserve the free inet, (and maybe free room and board at a state facility
Any self respecting geek can do it with less gear. And less power use 1 P3 933 with a gig of ram and pfsense. Me and my neighbors share multiple connections via these wonders. Really nice to open up a download and get 60 mbit when you can get powerboost going.

Bosstones-

LOL nice. But I got you pwn'd. Athlon 600mhz 256mb & PFSENSE running 6 NICs.

Problem I have is due to seeing 38 different networks (or 48 if I use the big grid) I get a lot of interference. Damn channel 6 and it's 20 APs!

Also 60mbps is a bit crazy considering 38mbps is DOCSIS payload max. You must have neighbors on different nodes? How do you share the lines (wifi? then isn't 10mbps about the max you can pull?)

That's awesome logic. I might as well go take my neighbor's car tonight for a late night drive through Atlanta. They're not going to need it, they're sleeping.

And I'm sure there's no way the bank could use all that money they have in their vault. As long as I can make my wallet fatter right?

Not only wireless , we have wires buried to the 2 houses next to me. My wifi comes from the 2 local school buildings they are new schools and offer open wifi in the library. They are linked with a ds3 to the city. Kind of slow about 18 mbit. And we have an apartment complex behind me. They have service included in the cost of the condo I don't even know the speed I am told its comcast but like a hotel system where you just plug in an ethernet cable.

But 2 friends on Comcast 1 On EVDO 1 in the Condo and the 2 local schools. we are all on the 8/768 option , the condo alone I can get 12 mbit , the 2 schools tap out at 18 each at night. They are wireless g not encrypted. With powerboost (when it works) and the cable connections we can hit 48 or 50 mbit. The wireless links only add at nite and the evdo is really just a back up in case comcast and the schools go down. They tend to go down around the same time a lot, but show different ips. and the ips dont show to be owned by comcast.

IEEE needs to be shot for not having variable/dynamic/on the fly changing transmit power. APs/wifi clients dont reduce their transmit power when they are closer. That causes serious wifi pollution problems. Goto Union Square in NYC, I get about 1000 APs, none of them connectable.

Event though that last 2500 could use a power cable and a press on the power button to deliver its full potential...

To be fair, there is a difference between using something physical and something that is not physical. He's using a connection that is unlimited so technically he isn't hurting anyone. If you don't want people using your connection then lock it down!

I use to have my AP open but when a douchebag neighbor decides he can run p2p on it when I am trying to play a FPS. The free ride is over!

That fiber was used when I had my fiber switch working. I have 3 1000base sx cards in the servers and 1 of the pc's in the house. But the switch died, so I just have alot of fiber laying around.
