| Kitchen Counters
I'm looking at kitchen countertops. I've boiled it down to the engineered stone (quartz) or the solid(corian). I use the kitchen a lot, and its very open and airy.
Anyone have experiences? regrets?
I'm looking at a place in South Windsor, Mathers. Anyone have any recommendations in the greater Hartford area?

| We have Corian and like it very much. I would be sure that you get an factory trained installer. Our was and did a fantastic job but I could tell that it wasn't easy. The stuff is extremely hard and, therefore, difficult to work with.
They say it won't stain and I will say that it's very hard to stain it but it can and will. But one of those rough "scrubby" pads and a little bleach-based cleaner and it will come right out. -- Old dogs can learn new tricks! |

A visit to Stone Depot in East Hartford is strongly suggested before you plunk any money down. They have quite an impressive showroom.
The Hartford Home show had some interesting tops made from recycled beer bottles. I don't think we'll be seeing them installed in The Vatican, but 'Green' they were. |

| reply to orion940 I ended up getting what I thought is a good deal. I went to a local place, he was $4900 for 40 sq ft installed with sink and fixtures (plus plumber). This was the Dupont Zodiaq, color group B.
I got an estimate from another guy for laminate for $2250.
I went to Lowe's, and was surprised. It's not the same store it was 2 years ago. Customer service could not be better. They came in with $3100 installed (plus plumber), with sink. The outfit they use for install is Discover Marble and Granite. They also had a promotion for $100 in gift cards for every $1000 you spend. So, there's another $300 saved.
Now all I need to do is find a carpenter to level out some stuff, lift up some cabinets.

I went with Lowes. Most of the issues I've heard have been with the installers, this holds promise of being decent.
