anon posted : I am using a fiber optic dsl cable.I got my computer fixed a few months ago and ever since i got it back i get with my LAN saying I have limited or no connectivity, yet my internet still works so I don't complain. But I still want xbox live.I can connect to xbox live if i directly connect my cable to the xbox360 and type in my pppoe settings, but it isn't stable and I lag severely or on most occassions, cant even sign in.

My isp told me it's because I need a router,so I buy a brand new linksys wrt54g v8 wireless router, however when I try to install it I get the error cannot connect to internet, and in the Xboxs info on errors it says if you get this error using a router make sure you have internet connection. But I don't.

So I have limited or no connectivity, error with installing linksys, and cannot maintain or even get on xbox live(cant even get passed ip address test with router).

I have already talked, looked through all the faqs and customer support services with each company. They all contradict each other.

I have done power cycling, many times and refuse to keep trying as I get nowhere each time. The MAC address is interesting although I think I've done that before, also my friend did(hes studying some class and hes well trained with this)although he cannot figure it out either and he inserted a mac address,i will retry this.

I do not have a modem.I use a fiber optic cable. There is no way to get a modem in my area unfortunately without switching isps and thats out of the question.

I have also tried forwarding the 4 digit ports, which got me no where as well:\
