Unfortunately, if it was built in the U.S., you would be paying a good bit more for it.
Still holds true to the euro going up vs the dollar?

Absolutely. Currency has little to do with it (not nothing...but little).

The issue is the cost of doing business. I am not either "for or against" this, just stating the facts. It is tremendously less expensive to manufacture goods in China than the U.S., first, and foremost, prevailing wages, but also, lower pollution standards. These factors alone outweigh shipping costs by a wide margin.

The days of building a product in close proximity to the intended market are long gone.

Again, I am not stating anything "political"...folks want high paying jobs here...conversely folks here also want inexpensive goods...I have no simple solution to make everybody happy...

That was true when oil was $30 a barrel, how about now when it is near $110 a barrel? Maybe going to $200 a barrel? At some point there has to be a diminishing return (when the shipping costs outweigh the production cost reductions).

There are only so many "dead dinosaurs" that can be pumped out of the earth to burn

No argument there! I am only speaking of the here and now. If it was cheaper to build 'em locally? Why then they would. In today's global economy, labor costs, and local business regulations (taxes, pollution standards, etc.) still hold more sway that cost of transportation...perhpas it will change down the road...but not today.
