No. But I use Windows Mail for my ATT e-mail. Did you go ahead and check your settings?

Well can't figure this one out for the life of me.I can verify my second e-mail account but can not my default account per there instructions here.
»help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/o···-07.html

Why does stuff like this have to be like a Chinese fire drill thought it was cookies but it is not. When I go to verify my main account I get this.

Now what?

Re: (Problem) Sending Mail

After a couple of calls with my ex-girlfriend and this morning, I can tell you the solution.

Yesterday, the smtp.att.yahoo.com servers began enforcing that the authenticated SMTP sender must match the PRECISE sub-account account that you're trying to send with.

This is the probable final result of »Strange SMTP problems. rearing its head.

All my account information is correct so what gives?

Or should I post this in direct?

Each individual account must use its own ameritech/sbcglobal/att.net account name for SMTP authentication. What are you using as your mail client?

Thunderbird.

I have not changed any settings.

The two accounts have the sbcglobal/att.net account name.

Re: (Problem) Sending Mail

Thunderbird will try to use a single SMTP server for all your mail. If you're authenticating SMTP for account1@sbcglobal.net with account2@sbcglobal.net, it won't work anymore.

So you are saying that you can not authenticate other multiple non sbc accounts with only one sbc account? You can not enter the same email address and password to SMTP authenticate multiple non sbc account anymore? in case I was not clear. If that is the case what kind of BS is this?

Yes, I am saying because of the changes they made, you can not authenticate with a different account name than you're using to send with.

I don't know what kind of BS it is, or that's it's necessarily BS. What we have here, is a failure to communicate, and it's not the first time that's happened. If they're going to make a change like this, which is going to be very subtle, against the way some software like Tunderbird is designed, etc, then they have to think about the consequences, and implement it with some warning.

The idea itself isn't necessarily BS, and probably comes from a desire to significantly reduce the amount of spam generated from their servers.

MagMan is a casualty of this. Were I there, or nwrickert, we could solve his problem in under 2 minutes.

Instead, we have a situation where a user is frustrated, and no amount of explaining the situation has, to date, given him the right solution. I'm going to try to find the time to go through the steps later on today and put them into a FAQ type format.

If that doesn't solve the problem, maybe someone would be willing to use VNC to fix his problem, but that opens a whole other can of worms.

There are some interesting little oddities in the way this has been implemented. If a non-matching ATT Yahoo "from" address hits the ATT Yahoo SMTP server, it is bounced with the error message that was posted. BUT, if the "from" address is not in the ATT domain hierarchy (ameritech, sbcglobal, etc.) the message is sent normally.

Perhaps they will catch on to this eventually. I use a personal domain email address as a from, and I haven't had any problem so far, but will apparently have to make some adjustments if the ATT SMTP servers are further restricted.

This disparity is likely intentional.

I am guessing that the aim is to extend their use of Domain Keys header signatures, to authenticate senders. They had been previously doing this for yahoo senders, and these changes will allow them to do it for sbcglobal, etc, senders. They can't authenticate foreign domains over which they have no control, so they don't bother to try and instead omit the domain keys signature in that case.

Re: (Problem) Sending Mail

Error 553

Recently Yahoo found a Security Hole on their servers

Message says:
*******************************************************************************************
The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was ***********. Subject 'letter', Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server: 'smtp.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553 From: address not verified
»help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/edit/a···dex.html,
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC78
*******************************************************************************************

How To Fix this?..
You need to verify your email address to be able to send out mails, and yahoo is no using port 25 is using port 465 through a SSL connection.. so if u have an ATT account.. your outgoing should be smtp.att.yahoo.com

ok, now you need to sign in on webmail, go to "Mail Options", Then go to Account, Click on "add or edit an account", then click on "Add",
and you'll have:

*Step 1: Enter Account Name
Please enter a name for this account. This name will only be used for display purposes.

Just type "Test", you need it just to send the verification mail, Continue

*Step 2: Enter Email Address

Name: just type your name here --------------
Email: ***type an alternate email to be able to receive the verification code,***---

Continue.

*Step 3 Setup Mail Server
You need to SKIP this step

*last step will send the verification email

ok, now sign in on your alternate email open yahoo message
, copy the verification code, lick on yahoo link, paste and verify, that basically it, worked for me.

Hopefully will work for y'all

like i said its a Yahoo security hole, not AT&T Issue, sad thing is , there is no ETR, as far as i know, yahoo is working on it. im gonna try and digg for a ETR.

If this doesn't work contact yahoo 1-408-349-1472
its either Free or fee Based

Good luck

I too have been hit by this (or I should say my wife was). I ran through the steps and it did seem to resolve the problem. Not sure how exactly but it seems clear that the yahoo smtp server is not only validating the username and password used to login to the smtp server but it wants the from address to be a 'valid' address for the account. Seems overkill to me.

Didn't you hear the recording while on hold for 45 minutes?

IT'S FOR YOUR PROTECTION! So quit yer yapping or Ma Bell will show up at your house with a nuke to protect you even more!

Seriously, overkill seems an appropriate way to put it. but I also suspect that the implementation was botched too. Why didn't they send out an email to everyone? Why is the verification area of the webmail options interface so deep in the system and hard to find?

It's all well and good to try and tighten up the network, but it often helps if one bothers to inform the end users.

That has not been my experience. All email sent from my domain via ATTYahoo! servers (smtp.att.yahoo.com) was rejected. I have to use my webhost's SMTP to send business email.

That's not entirely accurate in my case. I never use my SBC-issued email address in the FROM field.. it's always a disposable (spamgourmet address) or what I'll call a vanity email address (like myfirstname@mysurname.name). For the first couple weeks since the problem struck, my outbound mail would bounce the first couple times.. and after ~4-5 resends, the SMTP server would eventually accept it.

And in the past couple days, I'm seeing that I cannot even resend to get around it. So the results are not even consistent, which is the worst possible case.

It's way too inconvenient to login to a webpage and register a new email address for every one-time-use disposable email address I craft. I'm changing email providers, BTW.

I really need an SMTP provider I can trust. Suggestions?

Ok I am trying to remain calm about this, but it is becoming harder to do.Because the more I look into this more it seems like a lot of crap,I just noticed now that signed on to the yahoo mail interface and sent an e-mail to myself from my default account the web page it works fine no go in thunderbird. Is this just a way to get people to use the web mail instead of using standalone e-mail clients I do not understand this at all.You can not tell me that I am the only one having this problem. You follow their directions and they don't work,so than what do you do.Would someone please shed some light on this Please.

Your help has been much appeciated Lev ,but is there anyone else that has any other info on this.Because at the moment I do not know what to do to fix this.

Re: (Problem) Sending Mail... and the solution

I use webmail, so not affected.

However, when configuring thunderbird (the account settings), there should be an "advanced" button where you can specify multiple SMTP server definitions. Then you can select which applies to a particular account.

Re: (Problem) Sending Mail... and the solution

Yes, you would have to click the "Add" button, and define additional SMTP servers.

If I remember correctly, the name listed there is the local name you use for the server. You could use different names, but the same actual server (I think). Then set the authentication credentials differently.

Finally, having defined several SMTP servers, you can set which to use for each account.

Re: (Problem) Sending Mail... and the solution

I just setup accounts on thunderbird to test this. It worked fine.

I added two smtp servers, with smtp.att.yahoo.com the server, and the name the email address with which I authenticate.

Then, while in accounts, select the account name, and select which smtp server for that account.

When sending, I select the appropriate "from:" address, and it is sent via the correct smtp server as selected for that account.

Not sure MagMan if problem was resolved, but I solved mine,I think,by simply adding my email address as my Account Name for both Seamonkey And Thunderbird, which I use,I also had to move my email address over 1 space to the left under Account Settings, for "Email Address" field, then added my email address above that for "Your Name" field.

To me this is B.S.period in my opinion If I can go and sign on to my Yahoo account web page and send a e-mail from my default account why not in Thunderbird. It worked before why not now plus the fact my bill is going up five dollars a month next month, and now I can't send e-mails from my main account what kind of crap is that.I am not very happy at the moment with this shit I may have to look for another ISP if this can't be solved.I am now posting this in Direct to see it it can be resolved there. Thanks for the imput from everyone.

I am having this problem with Outlook and not Thunderbird. I have 3 non sbc accounts, 2 of which I have managed to get to work just fine using a SBC account to authenticate. The 3rd one works but the error message that has been posted here keeps coming up over and over if Outlook is open, even though it is set up the same as the other 2 accounts. Hoping they get it resolved soon.

I don't want to hijack this thread so split if necessary but one of my customer's is having the same error but they have an Exchange server that sends out via smtp.att.yahoo.com port 25 using their userID@sbcglobal.net and password for authentication. I switched them to send out our SMTP server but it seems to quit working mysteriously within weeks. Short of setting up a Sendmail box that can do SMTP SSL, what can I do? As RadioDoc mentioned, can I opt out of the port 25 filter or is that even a factor since I can relay through my SMTP server outside ATT's network?

Re: (Problem) Sending Mail... and the solution

For reference, if you need to use a different SMTP server than what the ATTYahoos provide:

Go to »helpme.att.net/servabuse.php

Under "Abuse Type" select self-flaggelation.

Uh..wait, no, that's not right...

Under "Abuse Type" select **Opt Out Port 25.
Under "Abuse Occurred In" select Manage My Account.

Fill in the rest of the form using the primary account information. You don't need to put anything in the textbox. Send it on it's merry way.

The outbound mail filter should magically disappear within 48 hours, sometimes immediately.

I was initially frustrated with this change. A real PIA....

But I found this link extremely helpful....

»help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/o···-07.html

It explains step by step how verify your other addresses without going through setting individual outgoing smtp or opting out of port 25 block. Just make you are using the classic yahoo mail interface. The new interface does not have it built yet. Go figure!

A couple of our clients have been having similar issues sending mail since last week. Today, we were able to get the following information from ATT as a backup until the normal smtp.att.yahoo.com port 465 SSL connection works again. Sorry if it's already been posted, but I wasn't able to find this in my earlier searches.

Outgoing server: smtpauth.sbcglobal.net
Outgoing server port: 25 does not require SSL secured connection
Outgoing server requires authentication
Log on using *@sbcglobal.net (*@att.net) with password

Steve McGarrett

@sbcglobal.net

Easy solution: replace att with mail in server name, thus:

smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Don't change anything else. Works fine with port 465, swbell.net, sbcglobal.net, att.com, etc. accounts.

AT&T uses akamai to load balance smtp.att.yahoo.com. Some physical machines started having this problem last week, others were OK. By this morning, all machines seemed to have this problem. By this evening, some machines have had the problem fixed, others not. Meantime, smtp.mail.yahoo.com has worked fine all day.

And, no, AT&T doesn't do anything for *OUR* protection, it is for AT&T's protection^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hfit.

Aloha,
McGarrett

After having some frustrating non working SMTP server issues, I finally came here to look up what was wrong.

All I did was change my sbcglobal SMTP server to the new attyahoo one, and logged into account management and added both my gmail and school mail, changed the port from Apple Mail, and wala, I could send mail again!

Woooo.

Me too. I just noticed this yesterday. Here's the error message I get below. If I send the email repeatedly, it goes through sometimes, maybe 1 time in 5-10.

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'Mt Vernon phone numbers, 2008', Account: '-JRM-', Server: 'smtp.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

I don't need to use AT&T/Yahoo email, so will kill it, along with everything else related to their buggy, customer-unfriendly system.

timot

@covad.net

I've also been having the same troubles sending work e-mail from my home computer using apple mail. I get the standard error message:

From: address not verified; see »help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/o···-07.html

I have done the following:

1. Added work e-mail as a verified e-mail address on my sbc/yahoo e-mail account.

2. Set the outgoing mail preferences to
SMTP Server: smpt.att.yahoo.com (I've tried lots of variations here)
Port: 465
Use SSL
Password authentication
User Name ***@sbcglobal.net

3. Wrote to tech support. They suggested something about opting me out of a port 25 filter to let me send e-mail to non-att/yahoo servers. I can't figure out if this could be any help or not. The work e-mail runs off an exchange server, and demands I route messages through somebody else's outgoing mail server (usually the ISP's). Any ideas?

I am now able to send mail about 1 time in 10. Sometimes I'll be able to send a whole bunch of e-mails in a row without trouble, but then I'll go for hours without being able to send anything.

Thanks!

I've read through this thread and all of the solutions offered, but I haven't come across my precise situation, so I'm checking to see if anyone has suggestions to offer.

I'm a legacy DSL client who was with SNET, which was then bought by SBC, and I never switched over to SCB Yahoo! DSL (or the current AT&T YAhoo! DSL). I don't actually use my ****@snet.net email address for anything, but I'd been sending outgoing email for my long-term email account on a third-party server via smtp.snet.net. Until last night, that is, when it suddenly stopped working.

Since I'm legacy, I'm not on AT&T Yahoo! DSL, and therefore Yahoo! doesn't recognize my ****@snet address as a valid one, meaning I can't log in and verify an address. Am I therefore just pretty much screwed as far as sending outgoing mail via any of AT&T's current smtp servers? My login/password still works at the AT&T webmail site.

Problem Sending mail with att yahoo again, tried all the solutions i found in this tread, no help, besides calling support yet, anyways the error message is this

Task 'pop.att.yahoo.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC7D) : 'Your outgoing (SMTP) server does not support SSL-secured connections. If SSL-secured connections have worked in the past, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

I don't get it, only changes in the PC are.

Windows Vista Home Premium-32bit
Outlook 2003 Service Pack 3 32bit
Windows Live Onecare

used to work fine, i don't know what the heck to do at all now, if it's a WIndows Live Onecare issue, att/yahoo issue, or Outlook 2003, or Windows Vista--Any help appreciated

Re: (Problem) Sending Mail... and the solution

I just tested this using Thunderbird. My first attempt failed with an error (could not connect to server). The second attempt was successful.
