For whatever reason the problem just started for me yesterday afternoon. I updated my outbound server to smtpauth.sbcglobal.net and the issue went away. |

| reply to MagMan A friend was having the same problem on an iMac G4 running OS X 10.5.6. ATT would not help her saying it was an Apple problem.
After trying all the solutions shown here, the only thing I was able to get to work was changing the SMTP server info to be: SMTP Server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com Port: 467 Use SSL: checked Authentication: Password entered user name and password.
This is currently working.
Additional info: My friend recently received a new DSL modem from ATT. Her previous modem did not handle the PPoE connection, it was done by the iMac. The new modem seems to be handling the PPoE connection and issuing a NAT address to the iMac.
I'm not sure if the cause of the problem is in the modem, or on the ATT/Yahoo SMTP server. |

Dear AT&T Yahoo! Customer:
We noticed that you are accessing email using non-secure settings in your email software.
We would like to ensure that your AT&T Yahoo! Member ID, password, and email messages are transmitted securely between your mail software (such as Outlook or Outlook Express) and the AT&T Yahoo! Mail servers. In order to meet this need, please enable SSL via the instructions that are available on the Help site.
Since multiple email notifications have already been sent out about this, we request that you please make the necessary changes immediately. Remember, you need to make these changes if you want to continue to send/receive email using a mail client.
Thank you for your cooperation,
AT&T Yahoo! Customer Support |

| reply to MagMan I've read through this thread & its not really helping me much. I've been an old SBC DSL customer for quite a few years. Over the last month or so I've had an email issue starting to creep up & is becoming a pain. Today has been the worse so far. Here's what I get when trying to send an email:
Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMPT server SMPT.ATT.YAHOO failed.....yada....yada.....yada.... (yada's added by me)
I use Thunderbird and have for years. Settings:
pop.att.yahoo.com port 995 security SSL
Outgoing...smtp.att.yahoo.com Port 465
Any ideas? Maybe someone should fix their server?
Thanks |

After spending time with my internet access company they directed me to Microsoft support 1-866-727-2338 where they enter my computer by remote. They tried to fix it but couldn't if they could have it would have costed $59.00 They said they no longer support microsoft express with digital Ids and that i would have to purchase OUTLOOK 2007 or upgrade to vista. Truth or a lie this is what i was told from the lady in india. I tried reseting up through my provider earlier but with no luck. Its about money boys and girls.u gotta go with the flow eventually. Sure hate it! |

Thank you "sf user" for this post... »Re: Strange SMTP problems.
I just wasted 3 hours trying every suggestion in this thread and calling ATT tech support. No joy until I stumbled on the above post.
Cheers! |

| reply to MagMan Most issues like this is best resolved by using smtpauth.sbcglobal.net as your SMTP server. Then using your att acct (att.net, sbcglobal.net,snet.net, etc..) for the smtp aunthentication. Port number should be 25. SSL is disabled. Close and restart you client. Try to send out a test email.
If your using a 3rd party email and wish to use that email's smtp server also, you can. Call AT&T and request to have port 25 opened. After they have confirmed that port 25 is opened you should turn off your dsl modem for no less than 2mins. Turn it back on afterwards and you should be able to send out email using the 3rd party smtp server. If you still cannot send, you should try the smtpauth settings.
Btw, dont forget to check on your firewall settings.

| reply to MagMan Problem Sending mail with att yahoo again, tried all the solutions i found in this tread, no help, besides calling support yet, anyways the error message is this
Task 'pop.att.yahoo.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC7D) : 'Your outgoing (SMTP) server does not support SSL-secured connections. If SSL-secured connections have worked in the past, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Windows Vista Home Premium-32bit Outlook 2003 Service Pack 3 32bit Windows Live Onecare
used to work fine, i don't know what the heck to do at all now, if it's a WIndows Live Onecare issue, att/yahoo issue, or Outlook 2003, or Windows Vista--Any help appreciated |

That's interesting. How or where did you come across it?
More to the point, do you have any information on what exactly triggered that problem? I've seen it, but I can't for the life of me figure out the cause. It's more the exception than the rule that a Mac will be affected by this. |

I wanted to offer another maybe-solution for the people having trouble sending mail. I'm using Mail in OSX and for the past few months have to hit send over and over about ten times before an email will go out, and I think I found the solution this morning. I have AT&T DSL with an sbcglobal.net account, so I made my outgoing server this: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com -- and now it works. I hope it works for you, too. Thanks Fixed It. I've tried 14 or 15 other solutions that didn't work for me. Changing to plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com did -- at least temporarily |
