Yes that is exactly what I hear. I had an Outside DSL filter installed but that only added 4000ft to my line. Taking that off now I just have a filter to the fax line and my DSl is direct to the outside hub. I can hear the modem as it starts to sync up (beeps and such) then the constant white noise when its completely synced. it never used to do this and I do have 2 used modems on the way to test and mess with. But what pisses me off the most is that it was completely silent while the tech was here.. then not 20min later its back to its old shinanagins.

Damn Goast in the Machines...
