What Happened to Saber11 ???????

Saber11 has always, IMHO, been a good contributor to this forum. He did break the "Pricing Model Change" story.

I am wondering what happened to him? I see his account is no longer active. Did I miss something?

Edit: Spelling

Then they also must have waterboarded him until he gave them his password to DSLR so they could close his account as well.

They're good.

Conjecture:
I believe he worked for TW at one time and still had friends and contacts there. It isn’t much of a stretch to think that he got his friend, the one that forward him the info about "Consumption based billing" in trouble, as TW no doubt knew them both. To lessen the negative impact on his friend in breaking this story, which was reported nationally BTW, he might have agreed or offered to close his account here and not post again.

I was kind of thinking along the same lines as you, but was not sure if something else had happened that I wasn't aware of.

Sad to see him go. He just lives down the road, so I kind of took a personal interest in this I guess. Weird how you feel that way. You kind of feel like you know someone personally when they are geographically very close.

Hopefully it's just a 90 day cooling off period. That was only 2 months ago.

Heh, I just happened to notice myself that he's been gone for quite a while now... 18 weeks to be precise... We're both from Dayton and I've "known" him from this site for many, many years. He did work for TWC and I noticed his departure was around the time of the "leaked memo" and speculated his departure from here was related, but don't know this. I thought the leaked memo came from TW's Beaumont TX division and if so, I'd suspect any relationship with an employee there was facilitated through this site, not through the company.

Yep. I live in Dayton as well and had spoken to him, via DSLR, for several years.

Would be nice to know that it was related to the "MEMO" and not anything health related.

EDIT: Spelling.

My only association with saber11 was that I enjoyed his posts and they were usually informative. He lived in Clayton Ohio and my favorite uncle grew up there.

I really can't believe there is a health problem because it is too much of a coincidence that he broke the "Consumption based billing" story (that went national), edited his posts to lessen the impact (which included a copy of his friends email about the plan), and then stopped posting. Anyone who has been on this forum for very long knows how sensitive TW is about employees posting anything concerning the company on tech forums. Five or six years ago a female employee almost got fired for posting a Road Runner satisfaction poll here. Others can relate numerous accounts of TW disciplining employees for providing technical assistance in this forum. Many newer TW techs seem to come and post for a few weeks and then vanish.

The only logical assumption for me is that saber11 got in serious trouble because of the Pricing Model Story and agreed to close his account. Further I think if he had been fired we would have seen him posting again.

I find it highly unlikely unless Saber11 was a shill for Verizon.

Time Warner is likely not going to go to a pay per byte model, in fact all the trends are going in the opposite direction whether it be wireless, or wired.

Saber11 was full of it.

I tend to agree that he got into a little hot water over it.

I doubt he could have been fired though, seeing how I don't think he works for TW anymore. At least his posts elude to that.

Well, I hope he is at least doing well.

Actually everything he said was confirmed in follow up stories I did...

And I believe the trial is still scheduled for this summer.

I trust Jeff Bewkes who was at the D6 conference, not Broadband Reports.

Firms are pushing more flat rate plans not less. There was no internal memos going around as for pricing changes for the future. All of Time Warner's plans are known by the public in fact. There are no false internal memos going around nor information to leak. Sorry folks.

Reminds me of when people were running around saying Google was going to do a product codenamed Switch, which as we all know now is a carrier out in the Vegas area.

Broadband Reports has been worse than ever in terms of getting real information, in fact the opposite is true. There is more disinformation here than usable information to make a resonable judgement about Broadband Providers and the forums are moderated with all junk coming on it with alot of communications coming in from low level technicians with the respective carriers.

G-d help us if people trust Broadband Reports as their source to trust now.

One last comment:

Time Warner Cable has NOT officially split from Time Warner proper. Therefore till the firm split, there would be no announcement of any pricing plans, in fact the marketplace changes the day Time Warner Cable is split allowing them to make aquisitions and/or divestitures.

Sure I could work for Time Warner and make up a document that says anything and leak it. Whether that happened or something more sinister or not I have no clue nor care.

If Time Warner really did have an internal memo and they were indeed thinking this, then they are set to lose a ton of marketshare because carriers including their own Wireless investment Clearwire as well as cellular carriers are adding more unlimited plans than ever before and its competitors do not and will not change to per byte pricing plans. So they would destroy themselves in the foot and lose business. The existing investment partners of them make more money by having unlimited access rather than pay by byte.

Yeah. Well, other than the fact that you're wrong, that's really an insightful post.

You're welcome to believe in Santa too if you'd like, but I've confirmed that the leaked memo regarding the trial in Beaumont was accurate, and Time Warner Cable themselves have confirmed the trials are real, and on schedule:
quote:
Time Warner Cable Inc. is on track this year to roll out a test run of a plan to charge different rates depending on Internet use, said spokesman Alex Dudley.

The trial in Beaumont, Texas, will offer five-, 10-, 20-, or 40-gigabyte plans to new customers priced tentatively from $29.95 to $54.95 a month. Those who go over will be charged a fee. Subscribers can check their bandwidth use through a Web site.
I'm not sure if you're an anonymous marketing shill or an investor trying to pimp stock, but you need to go back to the classroom.

For those interested: I'll also note that once Time Warner Cable saw the memo had leaked, they called the Associated Press to try and convince them they had actually intended to announce the metered billing trial all along (I confirmed this with AP editors when I called them to see why they weren't crediting our story as an originating source). I believe Time Warner Cable's goal was to try and get out ahead of the story as it broke in order to frame the trial on their terms (didn't work).

I'll also note that Time Warner Cable has traditionally come down very hard on technicians who wander off the reservation. Time Warner Cable/Roadrunner employees have been fired for saying much, much less in this forum over the years. If Hall's right and he wasn't a current employee, then I hope nothing has happened to him personally....
