@abbott.com

 Can I use a cable card with UVerse?

My TV is newer, HD and uses a Comcast cable card right now to get the higher digital channels (I currently have Comcast). I like the cable card because the tv is mounted to the wall, with no wires, anything hanging. when they come to install my uverse in a few weeks, do I have to get a clunker box and run wires from it to my TV?

Uverse does not have CableCards. You'll get a STB.

Because CableCard is not compatible with IPTV services, you cannot use it with U-verse.

I thought I heard you could get a cable card with FIOS.

FiOS uses QAM for most of their channels so they can have CableCards on their networks.

AT&T uses all MPEG4 and IPTV service so they fall outside of the CableCard regulations. Now Verizon could eschew QAM for IPTV today if they wanted to, but it's not an issue because they are playing with unlimited bandwidth on their network.
