Re: Huh? Great idea on the home-built HD-DVR, but I have a friend who tried it and he ran into big problems: 1. You can't get *any* HD inputs to the PC unless you purchase a complete media PC from the manufacturer (~$1500) 2. HD encoding takes horsepower - my friend had to go full blown Core2Duo (3ghz P4 didn't cut it) to be able to reliably get his system to do what he wanted under Windows Media Center. 3. To get the encrypted cable streams or sat feeds you *have* to use the providers box (or cablecard). Then you're messing with IR remote codes, a single tuner, etc. (although DTV just unveiled a new USB PC tuner box made for WMC, who knows when it will be actually available though or at what price) |
