Yahoo pop mail stopped working
I have the main yahoo email associated with my DSL account for myself and created a second one for my wife. Both accounts have worked flawlessly for a long time. I changed both to SSL a long time ago. Webmail works for both accounts, but starting three days ago my wife's account couldn't retrieve pop mail. I checked the servers, ports, and all the other settings. Doesn't work using Pegasus mail. Logs in successfully, sees the unread messages, but can't retrieve them. I set up Outlook for her email just to rule out a client-specific problem and got the same result. Fails with error (0x800CCC90), -ERR problem retrieving message.
Turning off SSL and using the old ports doesn't help.
I called support, went through all the settings with first tier, they sent me to the for-pay support, which I rejected (I'm not cheap if I really need help, but it sure looks like it is their problem), got another first tier who was more helpful. Apparently there is some sort system email problem - I also (barely) heard mention of while going through the automated answering system. He suggest I wait a few days, then told me that when I do call back I should get to second tier support, since he (or any of the first tier folks) don't have the training to really help.
I would like to know if anyone else has experienced yahoo email problems or knows about them. My primary email has no problems; it's the secondary one that stopped working. I'm about ready to get my own domain name and point it to google mail - but hate to abandon the swbell.net email addresses we have had for a decade. The point of the domain name is to never be held hostage to an email provider again - change providers without changing the email.

I am having the exact same problem. I've chatted online twice with support with nothing coming out of it but a case number for me to reference at a later date. The first support person told me that the sbcglobal server is down try to send mail again in 4 hours. That was 3 days ago! I still can't send mail through Outlook.

Solved my problem. Eventually I got a second tier support person. (By the way, I have NO problem with any of the first tier support people. Just don't expect them to get beyond their script. The good ones will tell you you need 2nd tier support).
The 2nd tier guy accessed my wife's email via the web and moved all the inbox mail to a new folder. Then everything worked OK. He told me there must be a corrupt email. As long as the corrupt one wasn't in the inbox, I could download via POP. He was right. When I moved all the messages back to inbox, I couldn't download mail. So I moved them a few at a time back to inbox, and finally identified a single message that was corrupt. Couldn't read it via webmail either without an error. So I deleted it. Then everything was cool.
SO if your pop mail stops working for no reason, create a new folder via webmail, and move your messages there, and move them back to inbox a few at a time and download via pop.
Other than the fact that I had to use chat, a phone call, and email to contact a total of 4 first line support folks, I really think support is good. Next time I will ask for 2nd tier as soon as it is clear the first tier can't help.
