neither...both are very good at what they do...it has more to do with which carrier provides what services in your area...as each new generation of technology comes out, the carriers switch back and forth to who is faster...currently, and for the foreseeable future, GSM will have the speed edge, but it takes a while to roll out network wide for the fastest speeds to be available everywhere...also, even if one company's technology is the "fastest", if they don't have the capacity to provide a generous amount of bandwidth, the speeds will be much slower than what is advertised.

i remember the talk of Rogers "Swiss cheese network"...oddly enough, the only people who mentioned it (including myself before) where Bell employees...i can't speak for out west shaner, but around here, Rogers destroys Bells network in terms of coverage...the last year and a half at Bell, every second customer in the store complaining about reception was always mentioning how their "friend on Rogers had full service and never had reception problems"...it was one of the reasons why i signed up for a rogers phone when i quit Bell...i just had to know first hand what all the "hype" was about (they even have a bold advertising campaign bragging about their reception)...and i am not going to lie, their network is exceptional...i get signal everywhere my bell phone did, and everywhere it didn't...and while the EVDO speeds were king for a short while, HSPA is gaining ground quickly as its coverage footprint is expanding.

The roaming agreement with Telus actually prevents Bell from lighting up thier own network in western rural areas. Same thing for Telus in the east. they haven't won, no, but IC already stated that they were reserving 30% of the spectrum for new entrants...so, unless another new company comes forward, it's theirs.
