I'm looking into setting up a wireless network in my house and have my eye on the Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router (WPN824). I was wondering if anyone here has a better alternative or has had bad experiences with this model.
I'll be using it to access the internet with my PS3 and PSP, mostly.
I hear it has troubles when 802.11b type wireless devices connect through it, is this true? If so, how bad is it? |

| It's actually not a bad router. But since it has been discontinued, don't expect any new firmware updates.
If you run into problems with 11b, just reset the wireless mode down from Auto 108. But then, you'll give up some speed.
You might consider going with something more current. Check the reviews on the site. »www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/···y/75/96/ -- Small Network Help @ »smallnetbuilder.com |

| reply to jak3_dude As per no new Firmware updates, that is not true. They are constantly coming up with fixes and patches that are released. They just released a .20 version just a month ago that addresses problems that were discovered after the unit was discontinued. They are still doing updates for the 614 that should have hit EOL (End of Life) years ago. They take care of their gear until it is designated EOL that is when they stop supporting it. Discontinued is not EOL. It just means that a newer version v3 is out that has newer features or chip set. I want a v3 for the built in QoS, but since I basically just got my v2, can justify the action. |
