Losing connection in Toronto

Hi there,

I just found this forum and thought I would draw attention to this thread:

»Velcom HiSpeed
I would have posted here if I had found this forum earlier.

However, over the last 1 or 2 weeks, service reliability has been terrible. I have had constant dns server problems, slow crawling speeds (not phone line related), and authentication server error messages. I'm sure they're fixing these problems as we speak but it's been pretty bad lately.
Same here, although it's likely Bell's fault. It drops connection out of the blue while I'm on the internet. Sometimes browsing goes out first but I can still get email which is odd! Then I lose connection entirely. I haven't bothered calling tech support because it usually comes back on in a short while but my connection was out from 10:00 pm until 4:30 am tonight. Are you in Toronto by any chance? I'm at Dundas West and Bloor.

Same problems here in Montreal. No DNS form time to time, random disconnects, etc. Spoke with tech support a few times, but they say it's most likely not their fault.

For example today, from 9 to 14:00 everything was good.. after 14:00 lost dns... reboot modem.. nada.. didnt help.. called tech support.. ops it's working now... nm 15min later is out again.

They lowered my profile cause I wanted on fastpath for better latecny while playing wow. Still.. tech support said fastpath is why I may have all these problems... hehe.. makes no sense at all

I also saw all these started(or I think they are related to) when I saw they switch DSLAM card form Alcatel to Globalspan.

The 3 errors are always there no matter what. See below:

Same thing here.

It's the third day that happening for me. Yesterday night, the connection was worse than dial-up and pages couldn't load.

Right now, it's better but not smooth. Sometimes it's fast, something pages it takes time to load.

Thanks. Yeah its better here in Toronto too though I had some problems earlier this afternoon. You're in Ottawa, Splitskull is in Montreal and I'm in Toronto so this suggests that it isn't a local problem with our individual Bell connections but rather a problem somewhere with Velcom's system. I'm not too technical so I'll leave it at that.

cheers

Hmmm spoke too soon. Its been inconsistent since around midnight. Some sites are ok some aren't. I can't get POP email including mx1.velcom.ca but I can get usenet from nntp.aioe.org.

Hey Guys,

First I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding with this issue. Also I wanted to say thank you for making this post in our actual forum on this site.

We are looking into this issue and it appears that when we assign static IPs to the customers account/login the issue no longer exists. Please private message me your Velcom usernames so I can assign you static IPs.

I have already tried contacting our network administrator for updates once we get something I will definitely let you know.

Regards,

Matthew.

Hello Bluekeys,

Thank you very much for the pm. I made the changes on our backend and in the db so you should now have the static IP assigned.

Regards,

Matthew

Hey Guys,

I talked with our network admin and he said we've been working on our network for last few days and at the moment all the taksks are done and service is back to normal.

If you still experience any issues please let us know.

Regards,

Matt

Bad in Toronto this morning and Montreal too judging from the thread in the Canadian Broadband forum. I did 2 speedtests one at 7:00 and one shortly after 8:00 after reseting my modem and rebooting. My green internet light on my speedtouch 516 never stops blinking (it used to be solid green on dynamic DNS). I told you I wasn't very technical.

Hello,

We truly do apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused over the course of the last week. I just got final confirmation right now from our network administrator and it looks like they were working on the network and they found that there were some channel issues which has been fixed this morning 30-40 minutes ago.

We usually do provide notice via email however these past few days it was more of an emergency call to our network admin so he could see what was going on. This wasn’t a scheduled maintenance of any sort.

Regards,

Matt

Well its 3:00 PM here in Toronto and I have NO INTERNET CONNECTION at all. As in no green blinking light whatsoever. NADA!!!
I'm using the internet cafe downstairs. This is a current ongoing problem. If your Network Admin is telling you its fixed he's either wrong or jerking you around. If your not seeing many comments maybe its because people can't get online.
This will be my last post until I get connected again.

Hello Bluekeys,

By blinking lights are you referring to the LED lights on the DSL modem? If so this is not related to Velcom’s network but it means you have no sync or intermittent sync. Repeated blinking is 99.9% intermittent sync and no Blinking would be a no sync issue. I will reference back to a pm you sent me to find your account and run some tests on your line.

The actual network itself does appear to be better now. Minus this public forum we were receiving calls before when the issue was around but since we fixed it the calls have stopped which is why I think you may have intermittent sync now.

Regards,

Matt
