I love my Tivo

I have no interest in You Tube myself, but I do LOVE my Tivo!

Does YouTube keep the full quality uploads of the videos so they can go back and re-encode all of the vids later as the codecs improve?

The shaky or high motion videos on YouTube suck due to them being .flv's and the horribly low bit rate they use. Even then, my CPU fan on my laptop cranks really high when watching YouTube vids. Can Series 2 Tivo's handle the CPU load?

On the other hand, I'd love to get hulu content on my TiVo, especially when they start going hi-def.

This is for series 3s and HDs, not earlier units.

I would think they do because they re-encoded their entire library to h.264 for apple and the iphone/ipod touch since neither device has flash.

Ah, ok. Darn! Well, I doubt I will be getting a Series 3 as my Sony Series 1 TiVo and two Series 2's are working just fine for the moment. Though HD would be nice on my 47" Vizio LCD HDTV. The only thing that burns me is that the last time I checked, TiVo now charges full price for add-on boxes.

You can still get the multi-service discount on additional boxes for $9.95 a month or $99 per year.

I've got a series 3 HD hooked up to my 42" Toshiba LCD and an OTA antenna and it's amazingly good. Beats the snot out of what Comcast tries to pass off as HD here.

But why? Most You Tube Videos look crap on a small computer display.
Imagine how much worse it's going to look on a 50" Plasma display?

All of the details have not been released but if the Apple TV implementation is to be believed then a similar re-encoding may be in the works.

I agree that most of YouTube is crap.
