Re: The end of ISP's in Japan said by TI POIL:Very simple BT=High Bandwith=Big money Regular interner use=Low bandwith=Low money That means that most people will go from their 16mb profile at $50-$60 to a regular 1mb profile at $5 a month, multilply that by the thousand for each ISP's and they all either gonna fold or embrace P2P technology. THEY CAN'T AVOID FILESHARING they have to live with it. True, its the demand that makes the ISP's offer higher tiers of service due to P2P and Pictures and MP3, DVD, You Tube.
Without the demand most users can live with a 1.5mbs connect. |

Back in the 80s, it was common knowledge in the industry that porn was the driving force (so to speak) for the advances in graphic displays and operating systems. Oh yeah, faster computers with more than 256 colors was also useful for business purposes, but the *real* reason to spend big bucks on new PCs was what you could do on your lunch break. |

How does that compare to ILLEGAL activities since porn is LEGAL. |

While there's plenty of room to argue the point, I believe illicit activities can be just as strong a driving force as licit.
And what makes something legal or not is what the law says. Lots of ways to get one written, repealed or re-interpreted.
Not much before the 80s, there were still people getting thrown in jail for pornography. Some things are slow to change. Why do you think it's common today to refer to it as "pr0n"?
Today, even if it is legal, it may still be illicit. I'll admit to use of a fine distinction between illegal and illicit.
Changing the subject back to topic: Have you NEVER been a beneficiary of any sort in shared music? |

Trust me I can clearly remember in the 80's walking into any store and buying a "dirty" magazine. almost every video store had an "adult" section.
It's called porn because of mods on boards who are afraid of the word PORN. That has nothing to do with LAWS and has everything to do with being stupid. On some boards you can't even say HELL. Oh call the police on me I said HELL. |

That's the reason Commiecast has behaved in less than a forthcoming manner about the sabotage of BT traffic -- they fear the competiition to their overpriced PPV services that the legal movie downloading services are planning to provide.

And you ignored my question asking if you have never benefited from shared music. And in many of your posts you call people dumb, ignorant and stupid.
I can't tell if you missed my point entirely, or if you're being deliberately obtuse.
Take a little time to listen to what other people are saying. You don't have to agree with them, but you might get a glimpse of the big picture, if you know what I mean.
My point is simply that it isn't just legitimate activities that help push the envelope on technology. In this day and age, after you are warm, dry and fed, Wants will always come before Needs. |
