said by a333 :WTF? the link says that the streaming IP guaranteed rate is only about 256 Kbits/sec. how the hell will they stream Hi-def IPTV over that? From the way I read it, the HDTV stuff will be FTP'd from the boats to a central host. The HDTV data won't be seen live as it happens. Internet users will then watch the pre-recorded HDTV from the land based web site over a 39 week period.
All 39 weekly half-hour TV shows and all eight one-hour summary programmes will be shot in HDTV. Race organisers estimate that 90Gb the equivalent of 20 DVDs will be sent from the boats to race headquarters over FleetBroadband. This will be supplemented, as with previous races, by radio interviews, still photographs and text written by the crews also sent via FleetBroadband and other Inmarsat services. -- My BLOG .. ..
