| It's just spam.
I think this is blown way out of proportion, spam is not some serious threat, unless you are a complete idiot and believe the Viagra advertisements. I think he should do 1-2 years MAX, and give back all of the money. What is this country coming to... |

Wrong, this amount of money that this activity costs businesses in order to prevent alone is worth puting him in jail for 100+ years! |

Spam is a serious threat. It wastes bandwith (upwards or already there spam accounts for 80% =/- of all email), not everyone is savvy enough to clean up the mess left behind in it's wake, i.e. spyware, parasites, and virii, and even root kits. If that isn't a serious threat I don't know what it is.Oh, I almost forgot,we didn't ask for it!Peace -- BlooMe |

And its something that they cant prevent. No matter how many people you throw in jail, or for how long, The profit is there to be made. |

I agree it is horrible how crazy our government gets as it would seem its goal is to imprison all of its citizens. There is no reason at all for such a long prison sentence as people seem to forget the idea is to teach a person what they did is wrong and set them on the right path when released. Non violent crimes like this should never see a jail term longer than a 2 or 3 years. |

| reply to Underplay Hmmm... how to stop spam... ? Just the highlights:
1) Make all spam illegal. (What is spam? Anything you didn't opt-in for from someone trying to get something from you--too simplistic a definition, but the key word there is "opt-in".) 2) Prosecute the spammer. Prosecute the ones who hire the spammer. 3) License anyone who wants to send "bulk" email. 4) Have a "Do Not Bulk Email" me list that's actually used and enforced (just kidding... sorta )
Others? |

| reply to Doctor Four We do have to agree that if it wasn't profitable for companies to spam, they wouldn't bother. Spammers aren't doing it to annoy us, they do it because there is some idiot out there with a small penis, who wants to work from home while eating all they want and shedding 10 pounds every week. I blame that guy. |

| reply to james1 Well, that's why I said "too simplistic". And let's not leave out those charitable organizations. Spamming involves sending out thousands, or millions!, of emails, not one or a "few"... ohhh, you knew what I meant, eh? (Of course, sending out only one offer of "I want to be your friend... for a small fee" might still be considered spam by some, and just an annoyance to others, but that small 5% of people that actually like to receive spam might enjoy it and even take you up on your offer. ) |

| I don't want charities emailing me either though. A couple of times I've donated to some of them, and they've sent me so many letters that they've easily gone through more than what I donated. Thanks for wasting my donation charities.
Now I just donate my time, fixing old ladies computers for free. Charity should be personal. |
