you need to read my last reply, the satellite has not failed, in fact it is being put in its proper orbit, I am not saying not to go to Directv, but you have to remember first off this wasnt Dish's satellite just one they were renting, and as far as SES and Dish is concerned its still alive and well...just alot of misinformation out there.

What they have said is that they are looking to put the satellite into its correct orbit. However this will most likely use a significant amount of the on-board fuel which will reduce the usable life of the satellite - maybe by too much to be of use. Another consideration is one of insurance. The satellite owner may decide it is better to just "crash" the satellite and take the money.

The good news for Dish is that they haven't lost any real money even if the satellite is lost totally since they were going to lease it, and although they had spent money up-front to modify it that portion was insured too.
