Up until two days ago, I've had Verizon DSL on an old Fujitsu Speedport for the past 3 years. 768/128. Speeds were ok until about 6 months ago, and have been bottoming out at around 200k during the evening hours. After months of fighting with tech support, I found this forum and the Verizon Direct one and finally got the ball rolling on upgrading my service to the ATM network rather than the old Frame Relay. Within about 36 hours of posting in that forum, I had a new modem and a promise that I'd be switched over ASAP.
Verizon did whatever they do at the CO and also installed a new NID box on my home. The new modem is at least working, so I'm on a 'better' network now I suppose. Speeds don't seem a whole lot better than before. So I called the sales department today and requested to be upgraded to the 3.0/768k plan. They did it and said it would take affect in 2-24 hours.
A few hours later, home from the office, I'm starting to run some bandwidth tests. Earlier tonight, I was getting about 900k/700k. One test actually resulted in 2.1mb/700kb.
Now I'm getting 450k/700k.
Obviously something has changed because my upload speeds are definitely where they ought to be. Much faster than the 120k they were before. But the download speed is still way too slow.
Unplugged all the phones in the house, no change. I hooked the modem directly into the NID, no change. I ran the Westell utility and captured the stats.
Can anyone tell me if these stats mean anything? From looking around the forum, it appears to me that things are ok, but I am very new at this. Do I just need to wait another day for the speeds to fully be activated?
