The Tom Green show was first on public access in my area, long before he ever had any exposure outside of Ottawa. Whatever your opinion of his so called "humour", he was given a chance that he would never have received otherwise. It's a good way to keep television from becoming a bland monolith with every show adhering to the same tired old ideas. "Oh lets have this group of friends who are all very different and living in ten thousand dollar a month apartments in downtown Manhattan." "yeah! and lets make one of them really goofy and stupid, but kind at heart, and one of them can be the serious dull one." "wow yeah!" "also lets make them all date eachother at some point in time, because that's what friends obviously do." |
