I'll admit I was lamenting a particularly slow web-day when I posted this, in addition to suffering from a case of speedtest-envy. I should have mentioned that the phone was requisite [no phone no DSL] and that in the year I've had it I've placed two calls, as I've an unlimited wrls plan.
Put into perspective it does not seem so painfully unjust - and I've just discovered for another $14 I jump to 8.0 and unlimited phone minutes. Had to drag that info from them though...curious thing.

I have the Earthlink Phone and DSL 8000/1000 package. I pay $77.68 a month. Fortunately, I live within a 1/2 mile of my CO and have good, clean line. My speed is great and I have not had any problems with Earthlink worth mentioning in the last year.

Your modem is not your speed issue, though it is dated and doesn't have some of the diagnostic capabilities of the newer modem chipsets. I would a basic troubleshooting on your connection, if that doesn't work, get a newer modem.
