[netopia] Problem with sharing files when using Netopia 3347-02

Please bear with me, i am not an expert by any means but... SBC just installed a Netopia 3347-02 router/modem. It connects to the internet just fine but we cannot access each others pc's using file sharing. When i re-connect two pc's to our old Dlink router, file sharing between pc's works. I understand the Netopia does not block access between pc's. What am i doing wrong? thanks in advance

Any chance the Netopia has a different default IP address than the DLink?

If your shares are linked to your IP address, but the DLink was 192.168.0.254 (as an example) and the Netopia is 192.168.1.254 (as an example) the internet may still work but the PCs will have the 'wrong' IPs for sharing.

When connected to the DLink check you IP Address and the routers IP address with a IPCONFIG command in an MS DOS or command Prompt. Then do the same with the Netopia.

Then sign into the Netopia and change it to mirror the DLink.

Thanks much for your reply, it turned out to be that netbios was not loaded as it was not required for our previous setup and as soon as it was installed, wala, everything worked perfectly. I learned a lot about networks the past few days though.

Thanks again!
