Panasonic had much much better range than Vtech, Uniden, At&t, GE, etc... I could go down the end of my block with the Panasonic and still make and receive calls. I was thinking of putting an antenna on my roof and I'll bet I could have gone to the local mall and still be able to use the phone. Panasonic portable phones rule in my book. The phones look the same except my keypad is white buttons backlit with orange and my base station has less buttons, basically it has the voicemail and phone locator buttons but not the numbers. I'm very happy about these phones. I have the base station, my wireless router, and wireless mouse all running at 2.4 ghz and all within 2 feet of each other, and no interference! Basically don't worry about frequency, just buy the phones that feel the best. The color LCD probably makes it harder to use. I just got this one from Sam's Club last weekend, with 3 handsets.

I had an aging Panasonic 5.8 GHz set that the handset mics were starting to go, the mics were never that great to begin with. So we needed new phones badly. The Uniden set isn't great, but I think it's just because it's lacking some features that I really liked on the Panasonic set. Overall the Uniden seems good. I can hear callers well and they don't say "Huh?" anymore so I think they can hear me.

So far I think my only complaint is that the ringer could be louder and maybe they could have added some better ringtones.

I did this for my mother who uses hearing aids. The clarity of the calls was phonominal. Also she has the digital phone/internet from Brighthouse. This eliminated running a POTS line from one side of the room to the other. The base was just hooked to the cable unit and there is a phone in three other rooms. All the handsets ring for an incoming call so it suits her hearing problems very well. Also the buttons are a little larger and easier to use. DECT 6.0 is a worldwide standard so they are much cheaper to produce.

I guess I don't really need an answering machine because I have voice mail with Comcast Digital Voice, but if it comes with one that's ok, were used to using one.

It needs to be 5.8 GHz digital or DECT 6.0 since I run a 2.4 GHz wireless network. Any suggestions? I was looking at some Uniden, AT&T, and Panasonics. Theres some AT&T and Panasonics with color LCD's on them. Thats really cool and everything, but I just want a phone thats reliable, easy to use, has a good featureset (like call waiting caller id, auto entering caller id into a phone book memory, shared phone book between handsets, etc..). I'd be willing to spend up to around the $100 mark if it was worth it for the quality.

I currently have a 5.8 GHz VTECH, but I can still pick it up in the 900 MHz band on my scanner and hear both sides of the conversation. The battery sucks on it and some times people can't hear us on it. It's basically been dropped a lot, so it's seen better days.
