| reply to IAmNotHe Re: Where did my spam go?
If it is possible, could you post the text of those emails from Yahoo! and at&t about the spam filters? I've been working this problem from outside the at&t firewall all weekend and need some concrete proof that there was a change implemented by at&t in order to get my domain (and a whole lot of others) reinstated to send email into at&t addresses.
The problem seemed to abate this morning at 0800 GMT when I received notification that a message originating in from my domain reached an at&t (pacbell.net) recipient. However, all subsequent messages from any of my domains have been silently blackholed - meaning I receive no bounce notice and the recipient receives nothing.
Here's the REALLY bad news about this move: although I've been self-hosting my email for nearly 20 years, I'm now receiving pressure from clients and colleagues alike to "just switch to AT&T for your hosting and get over it". In other words, pay the Danegeld and stop complaining.
More as I find it - I've also got posts on the other threads mentioned above. -- Brett Brennan VP/CITO Homenode Group Inc. |

| As it often is.
I just can't figure out how screwing up millions of email accounts is adding any security to what is provided with the username/password login process for SMTP. The address has to be valid to even get in, so how does what I type in the "from" field make any damn difference? At least we still have the "port 25 filter" opt-out process so I can use my webhost's servers, because sending business correspondence out with my AT&T Yahoo! email in the "from" field is not going to happen.
Now they've managed to hose inbound mail with their laughably aggressive filtering. Way to respect your customers! I am seeing visions of drunken ferrets running their ISP services. This is getting as bad as the Ameritech.net days. * shudder * -- Toolmaster of La Grange. |

| reply to nwrickert We just run our own mail servers. Nothing is filtered inbound until it hits our servers and we have total control on that.
I never ever have trusted any 'free' email accounts and/or especially not YAHOO.
We also noticed AOL bouncing (and sometimes silently discarding) email sent to AOL users with certain URLs in the sig file. WTF?
If my sig has a 'myspace' URL in it, it tends to hit most spam blockers...I guess no one is supposed to have a myspace?
I dont recall seeing any spam hit our servers with myspace URLs in the sig files.

If you're running your own mail server you can contact AOL's Postmaster to get your outgoing mail server's IP address whitelisted. Their Postmaster group is actually very good and they'll take care of you quickly.
You can call them @ 703-265-4670

@sbcglobal.net | reply to nwrickert Something changed over night, as, after getting 100 spams a day for months, a week ago it droped to 1-2 a day. This morning I have 10 in my spam file from overnight. I think they are now backing off the tight filtering in place over the last week. |

| reply to nwrickert It is about time that they started getting rid of the spam messages. Reading the posts it seems to me the people complaining most are the ones mass mailing into the our accounts, in other words spamming. If I didn't solicit the 'offer' it is spam. Now if they would go after all those spammers that have found a way to get through the spam blockers. I have marked as spam a number of messages a dozen times each but the still show up. If you are mass mailing spam you should be blocked..... My opinion and I will stick to it..... |

| I have confirmed so far two emails to my @ameritech.net address that I never received last week, which I should have.
One was from my father overseas, and was bounced back to him with error 553 from aitmx5.prodigy.net. I am trying to collect all the evidence (full headers) before I submit this case to 'direct'. As a side note, I believe that prodigy.net servers are sbc's, which seems to go against the prevailing wisdom that everything is filtered at yahoo.
The other one was from a software company tech support, incidentally overseas, too. They didn't even receive a bounce back. It just happens that I've known them for many years, and sent them a second inquiry from another address to clear things up.

I respectfully suggest that you stick to things you know for a fact, rather than wild presumptions, and just shut up when you have nothing pertinent to contribute. |

I don't want to get 'tween you lovers but there is a known problem with Spam Guard Plus and attYahoo!. Known to the call-for-help folks anyhow.
Some users who move to the new or beta e-mail service can encounter a problem where mail that used to arrive safely in the inbox now gets dumped into the spam folder. And, spam goes to the inbox.
When the nasties hit, messages that used to be delivered correctly and now go to the spam folder can not be correctly routed by clicking not spam...they keep going to the spam folder. And, the messages that are spam but find their way to the inbox (not all but some) can be clicked to be spam but the next one from the same sender goes right to the inbox folder.
The support folks had a set of instructions for what to do that they mailed me.
Again...didn't affect all but it did/does affect some.
'Scuse the interruption. -- At Team Discovery we know how to get more outta that danged 'puter of yours! If you paid taxes it's a rebate. If you didn't, it's welfare. |
