Re: Taxes- How much are you willing to pay.

"top-notch" does not mean basic access. Americans have access to top-notch healthcare. Actually on par, better healthcare. It's just expensive for the end-user.

Americans take trips to get cheap healthcare. Foreigners come here when they want some of the finest healthcare.

It's not expensive, most in this country have health coverage. According to census data, less than 16% »www.census.gov/Press-Release/www···647.html don't have health coverage.

Putting 1/6th of the US GDP in the hands of this inept gov't would be a total disaster. We already see from other gov't programs how corrupt and wasteful they are. Nothing the gov't does, works well, other than the IRS. The gov't is very skilled at stealing money from Joe Taxpayer.

Keep dreaming. It's simply false, everyone knows.

Yeah, but what exactly does the "coverage" cover? I have awesome benefits (who does it benefit really?) via Blue Cross Blue Shield for the low, low, low price of $100/month. Oh, and it has a $2700 deductible before it covers ANYTHING. I'm a healthy, 30 year old white male with nothing to raise my rates. I pay $1200/year IN CASE something happens that costs more than $2700. The medical establishment in this country is a joke.
If you don't work for a large company that can negotiate a reasonable group deal, you get screwed.

At least I can buy ROP (Return on Premium) term life insurance that will give me every cent of my term life insurance premiums back if I don't croak during the coverage period.

The overage I offer my employees is $10 co-pay, $50 ER and $100/day hospitalization for the first 5 days, after that there is no co-pay. Prescriptions I think are $10 for generics.

The problem is not people not being able to afford healthcare, it's their screwed up priorities. They're rather have 2 expensive cars, $150 Nikes, and $150 a month cable/internet bills.

The medical establishment in the US works just fine save for the greedy bloody sucking trial lawyers like Sen. Edwards who make millions fleecing doctors. There are just some in this country who expect everyone else to pay their way through life. These children were coddled by their parents and now they want to be coddled by Joe Taxpayer via the government. They expect everything free, from free music and internet to free healthcare.

Dude, what I said is spot on. Americans have some of the finest hospitals in the entire world with generally better access.

Any certified doctor can set a broken bone well enough or diagnose a cold/flu and prescribe treatment. That's what Europeans and other socialized countries have access to. That doesn't make it "top-notch".

Just like baseball and basketball, the best come here.

if the U.S. healthcare system is so great, why the hell are average consumers so worried about affording it and ALL the presidential candidates are talking about changing it? (Hint: it's not the greedy bloody sucking trial lawyers )

Is it possible for you to give a response that doesn't contain a right wing talking point?

First off you can't hail how great something is when it LEAVES PEOPLE OUT, 16% by your numbers. It's moronic.

You complain about government waste and how high the taxes are for EU countries yet you don't point out that these EU countries aren't spending $500+ BILLION tax dollars on a a war in the last 5 years and that the tax money levied on their citizens actually go back to benefit the citizens paying those high taxes. They have high taxes, people enjoy living there, and they have a very good quality of living.

Exactly, and in this country someone has to make money because a person has an accident or gets sick.

The U.S., on a per capita basis, has higher health care costs than any other industrialized nation, by almost a factor of 2.

ah yes, take the statistic that sounds best, leave the rest for people to read for themselves; I give you credit for posting the link though.

"The number of people with health insurance increased by 2.0 million to 245.3 million between 2003 and 2004, and the number without such coverage rose by 800,000 to 45.8 million."

"16%" doesn't sound nearly as bad as "46 million", does it.

And what is the percentage of people without health care in most other industrialized nations?

0%

Everyone in America has access to basic healthcare...it's partly why it's so expensive here.

Try this out. Go break a leg and hobble over to an emergency room and see if they refuse to treat you.

And just because someone doesn't pay for healthcare doesn't mean they're needing healthcare. Break down that 16% and you'll see a lot of people who purposefully forgo health insurance.

But this site is filled with people who cheered the destruction of the finest telephone network in the world so I imagine there's a few who'll cheer the destruction of the largest (300 million) effective health system in the world.

People can provide their own food, or their house, it's actually legal. Self practicing medicine however is not legal so it is not possible to provide that kind of resources (legally) to your own family not to mention it requires an increases amount of skill than food or a house.

Because they can't deny you doesn't mean they don't charge your thousands of dollars.

Not everyone falls into the category that they need to get in line to provide for others wealth.

This is about broadband, not the war.

So because the gov't f*cked up in Iraq, they should equally screw up 1/6th of the nations GDP.

Brilliant!

Yeah, that would have nothing to do with the lawyers now would it? Has nothing to do with illegals getting free healthcare at taxpayer expense would it (costs LA County $300 million a year to treat illegals).

And your plan to control costs is to hand over our excellent medical system to a government that pays $400 for a toilet and $100 for a box of nails.

Great plan! Of course none of you geniuses has a plan to pay for it.

Lesson for liberals. NOTHING IS FREE and the gov't is good at nothing. Everything the government does is a total disaster and your solution is to give this same government total control over everyone's lives.

No thanks. Capitalism works just fine for those willing to work. Capitalism can be a challenge for the lazy children who constantly have their hands out looking for others to pay their way.

I hope your house catches on fire and some for profit fire service shows and asks for a fee before they put one ounce of water on your fire.

It would be an absolute shame if a government provided fire service showed up with their no good disaster on wheels to help you put your fire out.

Get a clue.

And to further expand on your little biased tirade that is a lie, your types like to point out all the bad things about "gov't" and never point out specifically anything because it would show your lie and the fact that the things that let you succeed would not be possible with out those needed things the government provides in this country. It makes your red vs. blue outlook on this country seem real to those not smart enough to see beyond political grand standing for ones self interest.

Give me back the hundreds of thousands I pay in taxes every year and you have a deal.

Meanwhile, I'm insured. Let it burn, I'll get a new kitchen out of it.
