I can't help but think that they were facing some revenue and profit loss in their desktop markets from corporate customers whose custom applications were not Vista compatible.<br><br>Business IT budgets are being squeezed in the slowing economy, and that would have resulted in alternative OS desktops being proposed as cost-savings measures. The cost-benefit of migrating to Vista would have difficult to justify. I could see the Linux desktop getting a fresh boost as vendors rushed to develop a SMB/Enterprise desktop configuration that would be easy to administer. <br><br>In the meantime, I can imagine folks testing Linux in an Active Directory domain. This doesn't seem to jive with RedXII1234's information who says these services are disabled by default.  Barbara then rolled back to SP2 and decided not to install SP3.<br><br>Not sure if RedII1234's info is correct or not.]]></description>

Now, if you have SP3 slipstreamed (or a XP cd with SP3 already on it), it will wait until AFTER its installed to ask for the CD key. Doesn't make much differance aside from making the initial install easier. Either way you still need the cd key (unless you slipstream the key in as well).<br><br>In both cases, it will check with the MS servers to make sure its valid (as long as its not a corporate version).]]></description>

IE7 is much leaner than IE6 actually, as Microsoft made IE more componentized and less integrated into the OS for security reasons.
