VPN Questions

Denath : I have a small problem at my work. Our connection is timing out for about 30 seconds every 1 hour, sometimes it times out twice an hour. I am working on troubleshooting this with my limited networking knowledge. My main question is how does the VPN work. I made a poorly drawn picture and am wondering which way they work. It is probably more complicated then what I drew, so if it is, I would appreciate help on finding out what way it works.

My main problem is I have network monitoring software and I have a couple of images of cause and effect. Here they are.

I am mainly trying to figure out if it's my router, the VPN network, or the connection doing this. I have had the modem replaced so we know it's not that. Any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry if I am inexperienced.
