Possible to lower modems baud???

I am working with some very old equipment for a company that requires a modem with a speed no greater than 9600. I am in search for the possiblity to lower the baud on newer v92 modems but I am not having any luck. I have a USR 5686 V92 that I have tried to config down to a 9600. Everytime I try to set the connection speed to 9600 it never shows up when I go back and check the modems current config. It always shows the factory setting.

Can someone tell me if this is possible with the newer modems and just any help would be great before I have to turn to ebay for some old 9600 modems..

Thanks in advance!

V90/92 modems automatically fall back to V.34 mode if they cannot connect in V.90/92 mode.

Most likely modem you are trying to connect to does not support either. Probably a V.32 (9600 bps) or V.32bis (14,400 bps) modem.

/tom
