amartinas : ive been reading about "deep packet inspection" and how it relates to advertising. in my reading, this type of adware can insert advertisements on specific web pages.

while i understand how that is possible, who are the ads targeted at? are they targeted at users as a whole, or specific users?

my understanding is that the use of this method would retain user privacy, and therefore there would be no way to determine who to target the ads that are being generated by these methods.

assuming that privacy is in fact being preserved, is it correct to understand that the generated ads would then be geared at all users "indiscriminantly", perhaps then attached to specific (or not so specific) sites?
