Yeah, I don't expect to see DOCSIS 3.0 in Phoenix anytime soon. They're only competition (and I use the term loosely) is Qworst. Word has it that Verizon wants to work into the area. But of course they will only go after affluent areas like North Scottsdale, Gilbert, and Chandler south of the 202. Besides Cox has their hands full with getting the bugs out of VOD here. |

| I was at the Light Reading conference. A discussion point came up a couple times. Which is more important, the ability to spike at times to 100 Mbps or to be able to deliver 15 to 30 Mbps consistently? I agreed with a couple of the speakers that the latter is more important, partially based on what Internet sites will even be capable of delivering.
Only 3.0 modems will be able to go over 30 Mbps (4 to 8X in the next couple years), but existing 2.0 modems can get to that level given enough shared DOCSIS spectrum allocation. |
