Re: how to setup new dsl access ACCOUNT w/o installing software

The CD is only needed if you are using a USB port. No CD is needed if using an ethernet connection.

True.

How to setup new dsl access ACCOUNT w/o installing software

*First you need to make sure your DSL modem have a Solid Green light..then your good to go

Then, you need to enter into your modem GUI by typing your modem default gateway..

Default Gateways

**Speed Stream modems 4100B/5100
[192.168.0.1]
**2wire Firmware 3.5+
[192.168.1.254]
**2wire firmware lower than 3.5
[172.16.0.1]
**2wire all firmwares
»gateway.2wire.net
**Motorola 2210
[192.168.1.254]

As soon as you enter to your modem's GUI you'll have a Login Screen

When you use your installation Disc is always gonna ask for modem access code or system key for 2wire modems, why? because this installation software is going to save a temporary username and password that can only be used for registration process, which is User ID: sbcyahooreg@sbcglobal.net Password : sbcyahooreg

Ok just type this in your modem, hit connect and type modem access code, Continue....

OK now you are now connected, BUT you can not browse :*(
u need to go to the following website »attreg.att.net
and now you'll have member agreement page..

next you have member identification
Box 1 and box 2

box 1 is used when per example you change to another location and you disconnect or move that dsl to this other place, first the system is going to unmerge you email address you have with ATT from your current DSL Telephone Number, then cut the line and move that line to your location and star over, but your email address is going to be associated for 3 months to a Dial-up service.

Using Box1, you'll take that email address and put it back to your new DSL telephone number, doesn't matter if is the same, on the system you don't have it and you'll might going to lose it if you dont do this!!..

Box 2 is simple to create a new one , when you finish, you will be asked to download a software, this software is going to change your modem information with your new email address and password, you can download this or you can just go back to your modem GUI, but this time you'll have connection information. just hit disconnect and type your new email address and password, hit connect again and thats it.

Or you can just simply follow the installation disc

For the former bellsouth region it is a little different.
The generic info entered by the installation wizard cd is attreg@att.net and the password is attreg. At this point, they can go to any webpage they want, which leads to a lot of customers calling in wondering why their modem is not showing the static ip they should have (because AT&T didn't do a good job of telling people about the new registration process and some helpdesk agents aren't doing their hobs completely. A lot of the customers think once they get online, they are done.

Then they go to dslinstallation.bellsouth.net. I was told that based on the information provided by the customer during the registration process, the system detects that they need an @bellsouth.net email address. I don't know if it makes a difference if they use the info you've provided but I wouldn't be surprised if it caused issues.

I agree with anonyjane See Profile the 9 state bellsouth region is under the AT&T umbrella but both regions use different registration web sites

What you posted repeats what's in the faq link below for the AT&T 13 state region
»AT&T Midwest/Ameritech FAQ »How do I register a username and password for my new account?

Can a bellsouth user change the PPPoE username/password to attreg@att.net/attreg
I'm thinking this will not work I expect the username must have bellsouth as the domain
