There is lots of different video solutions. For some, you don't pick the player.
Most are set to buffer what it feels will provide enough cushion to play non stop.
The more the buffer, theoretically the smoother the playback. If you do it manually, you need to find the right value based on your connection. If there is an option for the player to determine it, try that and see if things improve. -- Tweaked your connection? | Mail Parse | Speed Converter |

| reply to diplomat Don't get your hopes up too much though. Video on the internet even with higher speeds is subject to pausing. It will be better with more speed but I have a solid 20mb down speed and the performance is still sometimes stop and go. It has to do with how optimistic the buffering is on the server side. It sends data to you and how fast you respond is how it calculates how much it needs to send you before you can start watching it without pauses but it isn't perfect. The more it buffers the longer the initial delay to have the video start but usually the smoother the experience.
Also, obviously server performance is a factor as well as the latency (network delay) between you and the server. -- Tweaked your connection? | Mail Parse | Speed Converter |

| reply to Irish Shark Hi again Irish Shark, actually the next package available with Atlantic Broadband jumps to 3MB. So I'm going to go ahead with that because I do enjoy watching the videos online and hate that stopping, starting all the time. I buffered the WMP program 25 sec, but that really didn't help and I guess I assumed with my new laptop, having a faster processor would make a difference, but it didn't. So that was why I kind of thought maybe it was the internet speed we have.
Thanks again IS.........and Happy Easter to you! |

| reply to diplomat Donna, 320kb is really not going to cut it for streaming videos on the Internet. In fact 1.5mb is on the low end. I think I would try the 1.5mb and if that does not cut it, go to 3mb. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |

| reply to GeekNJ thanks so much for your reply GeekNJ
Right before receiving it, I did get a response over in the other forum. My question had to do with watching videos on the internet & how they would stop after so many seconds and then continue, stop & continue, etc., and I wondered if it was because my internet max speed is only 320kb, so they confirmed over there that is my problem and that I need at least 1.5Mb. I was considering going with a different internet package plan, but just wanted to double ck here first for an opinion.
Sorry to talk your ear off GeekNJ but thanks again for your response. |

| reply to diplomat I'm not Irish Shark but there's a couple places you might want to ask your question in:
»Audio/Video Chat »TV over IP
Check out the forums and see which is most appropriate. If it's a technical issue, you might want to ask in the Microsoft forum, Firefox (Mozilla) forum, or the Mac forum. -- Tweaked your connection? | Mail Parse | Speed Converter |

| I hope it's okay for me to ask you this, but since you were so helpful to me, I thought perhaps you can point me in the right direction.
I looked through all the names of the forums here to ask a question regarding watching videos on the internet & I thought the logical place to post it was on the CABLE/SATELLITE FORUM because it didn't seem any of the other ones sounded appropriate. It appears my post has been viewed 19 times but since nobody responded yet, I thought maybe posting it there wasn't really the right place after all. Do you happen to have any suggestions?
