Slow page loading in Silver Spring MD

Internet has been slow off and on for a week, very bad today, wasn't usable at all earlier and still very slow.

Modem stats look ok I think. 35db SNR, 2db downstream, 47db upstream.

Line quality test didn't come out well though.

Speedtest.net download speed was about normal for my connection, but the upstream test couldn't even run.

Yes, your modem's levels are all fine (at least at the time you posted them). Have you called in to Comcast about the problem?

Called them today, got a higher level tech. They could tell that the modem was getting little signal and something was wrong in a line. Sending out a tech tomorrow. Oddly, seems ok now that it's late. Guess the line has more problems when more people are on.

At least they see that something is wrong- this is essential to getting the problem fixed.

The comcast guy just left. Checked the signal levels outside and they were fine. Replaced the modem, that upped the power levels on the modem and it's doing better.

Still getting 25-50% packet loss on most pings though, so he's going to report it to his supervisor and see if they can send maintenance out to find the problem. He has another call around the corner that has no internet, so he said there's likely a problem in the area.

Well, it's slow again and still getting packet loss.

Will have to call and complain and make sure the supervisor/maintenance were really notified.

Will be moving soon, and getting in an area with FIOS so I don't have to have Comcrap in my house will be very high on my list when looking around.

Given that your power levels (at least the ones you posted) were fine, "upping" them would not seem to be necessary.

The upload power was 53 when he checked it so he wanted to switch it out. Up load has has came back down to the mid 40s with the new modem. New modem is holding signal (i.e. not dropping out totally). Just still getting some periodic slow downs throughout the day, but in general it's a bit faster over all.

Beats me what the problem is, hopefully the maintenance will find something.

And now my wireless dropped for a bit and the upstream power is up to 51db again.

If the upstream power is fluctuating like that, you need to get a tech back out there. Could be a bad cable, but obviously impossible to say for sure without being there.

I'll give it a few days, as the tech said to wait a while as he'd have them send maintenance out.

There's some comcast guys out in bucket truck vans out back of our Condo building now, hopefully that's them.

Internet is golden at the moment. Working fast and upstream power back down to 47.

Looks like the maintenance work took care of it.

Been getting great speeds and no packet loss since Friday evening after they left. Guess it was an exterior wiring issues.
