1 edit | Re: Blast 16/2 running at half speed You don't have anything listed here about your setup or your levels, outside of the model of your modem...
I didn't get speed test results that were consistent with 16/2 until I did a firmware update on my older Linksys router. Of course, I didn't both to try that until I had confirmed that my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100 had the right bootfile.

I'd definitely try and check your config file, or what the modem reports the speed caps at.

'speedtierextr' seems to be the config file name.

I'm still getting an average down rate of 8500 kbps.

| Re: Blast 16/2 running at half speed My internet was activated on Saturday (yesterday). I've since noticed it go as far as 11.5Mbps with the rare spike to 14, but it averages about 8.5Mbps. I feel its worth mentioning that 8.5Mbps is still fantastic, but I'm trying to gauge whether its worth getting a slower (cheaper) service instead of paying for 16Mbps and getting only 8. | |

| Re: Blast 16/2 running at half speed Its horrible i am paying 64.99 for 16 meg and i am not even getting it. But now the problem is not only the speed but the fact that my service is not working the way it should be. I cant get webpages to come up at times its just a huge mess. This looks like this speed problem is going all over the comcast network. Someone needs to wake up at comcast engineering and see what's going on. | |

You're all in totally different markets, and while you are having some similar issues they are completely and utterly seperate, isolated problems. Particularly your problems browsing - you need to troubleshoot your connection.
This is not some kind of national problem.
This is what I'm getting with the 16/2 at work (I get similar results with my 16/2 connection at home):

1 edit | i had this service for about 7+ years now, and i'm also getting the same problem as you, never seen my connection go down this much in awhile, I have no reason to call comcast about it because i have lived thrue this for 7+ years and i'm pretty much use to this and I have called comcast about this a couple of times, but it looks to me that this is a internal network problem.

@comcast.net | Hrm, well I talked to a tech earlier and said the signals from my modem were fine. But speed results showed 9mbs dl/ 2mbs ul. They will be sending someone over on Tuesday morning to check on it. I'll make another post if they find the cause.

@comcast.net | So the Comcast tech just left and he said everything was fine on my end. He's going to file a report to their network and... well thats all he said.

I called comcast and apparently they canceled that appointment.. Not cool how I'm paying for what I'm not getting.

| just remember, your 16/2 is not guaranteed. It is up to that speed...
with AT&T's DSL of 6.0 mbps (if you can get it) - you can virtually guarantee you will get 4800 kbps all the time.... cable offers a higher potential but there will be variances in speed.

It started out great at 14/15 mbps and has slid downhill since.

Looks like I need to move to Marin.
has anyone heard any rumors about any network problems here in this neck of the woods? So disapointing that people South of here have 30mbps spurts and people north of us have 18mpbs. Hopefully this issue resolves itself soon. . .

| I have blast and plugging directly into the modem i get 31,000kbps down but when plugged into my linsksys WRT54Gv5 (latest firmware 1.02.5) I get 12,000 kbps consistently.
Have 3 computers, 2pc 1 mac - all get the same /similar results. my bottleneck appears to be the linksys.
Any suggestions on what to put in as a replacement for a Firewall / NAT device that won't choke on 31Mbps ?

| The latest in my saga. . .
I called comcast tonight because I am still speedtesting @ about 4000mbps. Some of my downloads get up to about 400kb/sec and then die down to about 200. Most of them stay around 200 or so.
I called Comcast and told them that, since I am getting 1/6th of my advertised speed I should only have to pay 1/6 of my bill. I guess they didn't think I was funny and decided to counter with their own comedy. The guy on the phone blamed my slow service on earthquakes and sounded amazed when I told him I had blast which was rated at 16mbps. Sounded like he hadn't heard of it before. I told him the speeds I was getting and he sounded like I should be happy with that.
Sigh. Anyway, they are going to roll a truck tomorrow to test my wires. . blame the problem and me and end up charging me for the visit. I'll let you know how it goes.
