| reply to iamdak Re: Blast 16/2 running at half speed
The latest in my saga. . .
I called comcast tonight because I am still speedtesting @ about 4000mbps. Some of my downloads get up to about 400kb/sec and then die down to about 200. Most of them stay around 200 or so.
I called Comcast and told them that, since I am getting 1/6th of my advertised speed I should only have to pay 1/6 of my bill. I guess they didn't think I was funny and decided to counter with their own comedy. The guy on the phone blamed my slow service on earthquakes and sounded amazed when I told him I had blast which was rated at 16mbps. Sounded like he hadn't heard of it before. I told him the speeds I was getting and he sounded like I should be happy with that.
Sigh. Anyway, they are going to roll a truck tomorrow to test my wires. . blame the problem and me and end up charging me for the visit. I'll let you know how it goes. |

i've tested again this time on the wired port from the linksys not the wifi ports and now am getting 31MB down.
looks like the linksys wifi can't keep up despite being a 802.11g wireless router. It's not the router, it's most likely how you configured it. I have a Linksys WRT54G v4 and get every bit of PowerBoost and had excellent speeds when I subscribed to the 16/2 tier. -- Write me up a 125.......I Can't Drive 55 »redrocker.com/ »cabowabo.com/ |

| reply to Durguard i get about 5/6mbdown from dslreports and 6/7mb down from speedtests and also about 6/7 from speakeasy.net ... I am in the glen park area in san francisco.. the conection speed isnt bad, it is just not what i paid for and I also get frequent disconnects... which is very annoying.. and a lot of webpages take forever to load.. I have a 6mb connection at my other house and its running much better than this one is. |

Good up speed but one half of down. No matter what test, I max out at about 6000kps. So this Blast? |

1 edit | reply to nitros22 i had this service for about 7+ years now, and i'm also getting the same problem as you, never seen my connection go down this much in awhile, I have no reason to call comcast about it because i have lived thrue this for 7+ years and i'm pretty much use to this and I have called comcast about this a couple of times, but it looks to me that this is a internal network problem.

| reply to iamdak Yah I'm having some crazy slow connection problems lately on my Blast service. Back in February when I got connected with Blast it was very fast! And was running fine for at least a month.
But I noticed about 2-3 weeks ago things getting a little slower, Noticed my connection dropped to around 12mbps, then 10mbps, 8mbps then 6mbps. Now I'm lucky if I get 3mbps! What the hell! |

| reply to iamdak I have blast and plugging directly into the modem i get 31,000kbps down but when plugged into my linsksys WRT54Gv5 (latest firmware 1.02.5) I get 12,000 kbps consistently.
Have 3 computers, 2pc 1 mac - all get the same /similar results. my bottleneck appears to be the linksys.
Any suggestions on what to put in as a replacement for a Firewall / NAT device that won't choke on 31Mbps ? |

 Speed test |
Here is what I'm getting on my speed tests. Not bad. There is just no powerboost with this new tier.

2 edits | reply to just me 2 Actually my speed tests here at DSLReports are slower than those over at speedtest.net. My speed registers in the 3mbps range here but 6mpbs over there.
Looks like I need to move to Marin.
has anyone heard any rumors about any network problems here in this neck of the woods? So disapointing that people South of here have 30mbps spurts and people north of us have 18mpbs. Hopefully this issue resolves itself soon. . .

@comcast.net | reply to iamdak Do you have cable services or just internet ? If just internet then 8 mb is the blast package . You should only get 16 with at least basic cable. |

1 edit | reply to iamdak I am in San Francisco and am having the same problem as both of you guys. I live off of Paul Ave. and my slowdowns started on the 15th. I've been around 5 mbps since then. I sometimes spike to 10 during the test but it isnt the 16 i should be getting. Doesnt matter what time of day. Are you guys close to me? Wondering if it is our node that is trashed.
It started out great at 14/15 mbps and has slid downhill since.
Thanks. . . |

| reply to luckystreich said by luckystreich :just remember, your 16/2 is not guaranteed. It is up to that speed... with AT&T's DSL of 6.0 mbps (if you can get it) - you can virtually guarantee you will get 4800 kbps all the time.... cable offers a higher potential but there will be variances in speed. Does anyone here in the San Francisco area get a consistent ~16Mbps with their Blast connection at home? |
