JVC PD-42B50BU

My daughter and son in law have bought us a ( secondhand ) JVC PD-42B50BU plasma telly. I have been reading up on them as it has no owners manual ( managed to find and download a pdf one ) I know it does not have HDTV but it does however accept a watered down form of hd via one of the input sockets ( may be the S-vid I cannot remember which site it was that I read it on ). Is it worth setting up this watered down version as I have a Pace DS810 or is it not worth the effort for what little change it makes.

I also read that it can be set up for surround sound ( I already have the set up on the old telly ) but there are only the sockets for a centre speaker and left and right speakers, would it work if I connected the back left to the left speaker and the same on the right ? or is their another way ?

Can anyone explain the "Decoder function" in any sort of detail

Thanks to anyone who can help ( and if you do, get ready for more questions )

The TV appears to only be a widescreen (16:9) SD television. It isn't even HD ready. As for connectivity, you would simply connect your hardware to it in the same manner of your current TV. The only difference likely being the number and type of inputs.

Seems 480 is all it can do. It's just a simple analog set.
