Re: NJ II/Union: New HD channels coming 05/15/08 - Canceled I am a former Comcast customer from Summit, NJ and I agree with Greg2600 on 2 things. One, when I was with Comcast, I rarely used On Demand, especially for ordering movies, whether they were free or not. Two, for years I had been upset that Comcast had not added Boomerang to the channel lineup. When Verizon's FiOS TV finally came to my town this past winter, I immediately switched from Comcast to them. Now, my TV bills are less and I can finally watch Boomerang as well as other channels like Fox Movie Channel, American Life TV and NFL Network (which Comcast is charging extra for in their Sports tier but Verizon has for no extra charge on their FiOS TV). The only thing I miss about Comcast is not being able to watch my local access PEG channel but there are plans to have that channel on FiOS TV soon. My advice to you Greg2600 is to switch as soon as FiOS TV is available in your area of NJ. However, if you're a sports fan, be warned that FiOS TV does not have Versus/Golf, MSG and MSG+ in HD (but they do have them in SD) nor do they have MSNBC in the Northern NJ area if you're an Olympics viewer. |

 | Yes, I've heard much about the MSNBC debacle, which is amazingly stupid on MSNBC's part. We watch MSNBC during dinner all the time, so that will be tough, but hopefully they get on Fios soon. I don't think my town is getting Fios until the end of year, maybe later. I've seen them doing some wiring, but not a lot. I never watch MSG or Versus. Frankly I really want SPEED HD, and I don't think Fios gets that. |

 | reply to Travelfan1 No Greg2600, Speed HD is not available on FiOS TV yet. |

Even more stupid is the fact that although the MSNBC restriction is supposed to be in place ONLY for potential Cablevision customers, Verizon has imposed an almost global block across Central and North NJ which also prevents most municipalities served by Comcast from receiving MSNBC. How is that fair? I've been told this is due to a technical limitation in the way FiOS channels are distributed regionally but the whole thing seems ridiculous. MSNBC should be available to everyone. |

 | reply to Travelfan1 Except for the upcoming Olympics coverage this summer, I don't miss MSNBC at all since I switched from Comcast to Verizon FiOS TV (I watch Fox News Channel). However, I do believe that MSNBC should be available in areas of NJ like mine that are covered by Comcast and not Cablevision's iO who are keeping Verizon from showing MSNBC in Northern NJ, Mercer County NJ and New York. |

 | reply to Travelfan1 I read this thread and feel the same frustration as others. I live in Summit, and am tired of waiting for additional HD channels. I currently pay $200 (including high-speed internet). My monthly charges continue to go up every year, with no additional line-up changes. I inquired about FiOS, but due to condominium regulations, have to stick to cable.
If they don't improve their service soon, I might just decide to receiving HD channels broadcast through air! |

That may help us - or do you think if FIOS ads a ton of HD channels in Northern NJ our system will be stuck in neutral as it is right now? Think about it: Summit has fios, Cranford has it, Westfield has it, etc, etc...
That said, as I said before, I've given up for a while - weather is nice, I can watch NHL and NBA finals, Euro is coming next weekend, so I'm set for a while. My drop-dead date may be 07/08/08, which is 1 month prior to the Olympics: If by then Comcast doesn't announce in the Ledger by then, I'll call Directv and see if I'll have LOS now for it. -- COMCAST of New Jersey II(Union) - The worst Comcast NJ system!!! | reply to Travelfan1 The question is will MSNBC be available for FiOS TV customers in Northern NJ, Mercer County NJ and New York for the Olympics this summer. Currently, MSNBC is not available in the above areas because Cablevision has an exclusive contract with MSNBC which keeps it from airing on Verizon FiOS TV. |
