| reply to Bubba17 Re: Plasma TV experiences. What Brands??
said by Bubba17 :said by BoulderHill1 :Absolutely, Plasma all the way for me. So, for you and the other plasma lovers posting here .. they no longer suffer screen burn-in problems, particularly associated with game machines? I use two large Screen Plasma at work at we run static pictures on the screen for about an hour and never had any burn in at all.. they are about 3 years old. I'd have to climb up and check the model numbers. -- It's NOT Ni-kon It's NE-KON!

The only other rap against plasma I was hearing was dependability, which also, based on what's being said here, isn't an issue. Maybe this was manufacturer specific too, I don't know. |

1 edit | reply to BoulderHill1 Should see some more price drops for Plasma but not so for LCD.

One inetresting note: "The use of LED backlights in LCD sets will surge in 2008, and we'll see a growing number of notebooks use this technology, which promises a wider range of colors and more consistent brightness across the display."

| reply to BoulderHill1 I own a Philips 42" Plasma. Seen the LCD equivalents. Honestly, mine blows 'em away! I couldn't be happier. Had it for 'bout a year, & 1/2.
Still nice & sharp, when viewing 1080I. SD looks awful, but that's jus' the nature of the beast. ANYTHING 720 I/P or above is simply DAZZLING! I love it!
Absolutely no problems.

There is the issue of IR (image Retention). IR is a temporary faint image that remains on the screen. If you use a menu or other high contrast image on a plasma, you will be able to see a faint image of the menu for a brief time (seconds) after the menu image is removed. This IR will not be permament (Burn In) but will dissappear as soon and another image is displayed where the IR was. On my Samasung if I leave a guide menu up from my DVR and turn the set off or on a channel that is mainly black, you will see a very faint image of the menu page from the DVR menu for a very brief time. I will really only notice it if I look for it. Some people mistakingly think this is image burn, but it will not be permament. |

| reply to BoulderHill1 i bought the 50" Sanyo plasma at Walmart's secret sale last fall for $1000. i have no complaints. the picture looked great next to the other display sets, and still looks great in my bright sunlit living room. i also use it as a computer monitor, and have not had any burn in problems, although i am careful about leaving a static image up. i guess my browser frame is static, and that has been up for extended periods with no burn in. i do agree, try to purchase with a credit card that offers free warranty doubling. -- The Geek Shall Inherit the Earth |

Oh and you might want to do some tweaking once you set it up. One thing you will want to do is take it off Vivid. -- "The American Indians found out what happens when you don't control immigration." |

BTW, I just picked up a recently discontinued 2007 model TH-50PZ77U for $1,750 + tax. Complements my TH-42PX77U except bigger and 1080p. Great picture quality on both sets. |

4 edits | The 50". I also have a 42" Panasonic I bought back in 2006 as well. I got that one for $999 back on black Friday. The 42" is silver in color. I like the remote on the 50". Smaller. The remote that came with the 42" is long. I hate it.

1 edit | I've had that 50" TV only since late Tuesday night but I bought the 42" 720p version around the same time you got your 50". Almost everything about the two TV's looks the same, including the remotes. I paid $940 + tax for the 42" last November or thereabouts, and $1750 + tax for the 50" this week with 12 months of interest-free financing. I think both were good deals. I just need to find the right stand for the new one. It's worth noting that the built-in anti-glare screens on these models are superb!
BTW, that looks like the Eagles DVD in your photo. Great concert (as was "Hell Freezes Over"). |

1 edit | Yes The Eagles DVD is awesome. I have Hell Freezes Over but it is on VHS. I should get that in DVD. My 42" is a 720 as well. I must have got the model before they changed to black. In this pic you can see it.

I am looking for a 32" for the bedroom now. That will probable end up being an LCD and Sony seems to have the best sales on that model and size.
