| For those using u verse opinions plz,
Situation first i have everything I can get with AT&T,(except the tv service & networking)this includes Elite Dsl package & separate cell phone Have been with DTV since '99 or so, but since not under an more "commitments" with DTV & no future discounts offered.
So have would like to ask ONLY the users of Uverse, or AT&T rep's. Questions If I was to switch to Uverse, 1,Would i be able to keep & use my Elite speed or would i automatically be dropped back to pro package/speeds? 2,your overall impression, plz of the quality & tv service. 3,Are you under a contract with them? is so for how long. 4.Do you own the receiver or just lease it.
lastly what would be the advantage (other then the weather factor) of going with u versse over satellite service.
Thanks Jazzy -- IF YOU ONLY look for the worst THATS ALL YOUR EVER GOING TO SEE. |

| 1) Speeds are different with Uverse and since you have to be within 3000' of the Vrad you could get any package. I don't remember all the names but speeds are below.
10/1.5 6/1 3/1 1.5/1
You get much closer to your speeds with uverse compared to DSL.
2) I don't have HD just SD and wife/I think it's clearer then Comcast Digital. Limit with U-verse right now is only 4 SD streams come to the house. If you have 5 TV's the 5th TV will see what one of the other 4 TV's are seeing. If you have HD then you can only get 1HD stream and 3SD streams. They are planning on expanding that some time this year.
3) No contract and you have 30 day risk free trial.
4) You don't have pay for the DVR or STB's but they are ATT's equipment. So if you cancel they send a box and you put the equipment in them to return. That goes for the RG/modem-gateway.
It all comes down to what you personally are looking for. For me I was sick of comcast's bills. I had DISH before that which I loved but I got a better deal for comcast do to having phone and internet with them.
Check the u-verse site to see if a store near you has it so you can take a look. |

| the "ONLY" thing that is keeping me away from going fully with AT&T is that everyone of the sales rep's have told & are telling me the same thing, even though we are part of AT&T,your phone bill & your u verse bill are 2 different bills,we cannot combine/include your phone package with the u verse bill.
and yes to #3 & 4 and was also told no installation fee nor rental fee on the receiver, 1 tv, don't need or want dvr, since have my own combo standalone unit (dvd player/burner vcr recorder/payer)

| said by A P CC :tdon't need or want dvr, since have my own combo standalone unit (dvd player/burner vcr recorder/payer) the DVR is included in the package and is F-R-E-E. No additional fee incurred. Might want to give it a try...I don't know if one could opt to not include the DVR. I think you are still coming from the practice of cable/dish companies asking for equipment rental or monthly fee for DVRs. |

| Hmmm, I might be a bit cautious about that one.
If dsl and tv are interstate services with a single franchise to distribute anyplace they want within the state. And, you add u-voice...wouldn't it become part of the interstate-based services and effectively remove yourself from any (weak as it might be) state regulatory oversight?
Merely a thought to consider before jumping off the bridge and learning that the sign saying No Diving means you could hurt yourself. -- At Team Discovery we know how to get more outta that danged 'puter of yours! If you paid taxes it's a rebate. If you didn't, it's welfare. |

| reply to Old_Grouch AFAIK it wouldn't be since U-Voice is basically VoIP similar to what the cable companies offer. Not like Vonage, Call Vantage or Packet 8.
Do to that you shouldn't have the fees like you do for POTS service. That's the way comcasts Digital Voice service was. |

| Wasn't exactly what I meant. If U-verse is the underlying product and u-voice or whatever is a service riding the core (U-Verse) service...then the OP's question equates to moving completely out of state jurisdiction.
U-voice is neither an ILEC nor a CLEC service still under the state's regulatory commission... or I'm wrong which is both common and hard to cure. Just strikes me that it merits consideration because you could be creating an unintended consequence.
I agree you wouldn't likely have the POTS-like fees. But you wouldn't get a helpful ear if you ever call on the state regulatory folks either.
Imagine having to call the FCC with a complaint about your "phone bill".

| reply to A P CC Since many of your questions have been asked I will provide my opinion/impression.
The main reason I switched was price. I had been with Directv and cable internet and am still with a VOIP provider. The cost for Uverse was less than what I could get for internet and directv whose costs are creeping up.
Overall I am happy with the service. I have 2 SD TV's and have been pleased with the quality of the picture. I have not had any downtime of either TV or internet. I have occasionaly seen stutters in the TV of .5 sec or less.
I miss having 2 Directivo's, but for the price difference I am willing to wait for Uverse's whole house DVR. I also miss the wishlist functionality of the Tivo. This would allow you to put in key words that would trigger a recording. For example if you enjoy wathing movies with a pariticular actor you can use a keyword and the DVR would record all shows with that actor in the future. Now I have to check every few weeks to see if those shows are in the Uverse schedule. |

| reply to A P CC I switched over from comcast cable/internet to uverse iptv/internet. The main reason I made the switch was for cost saving which for me was substantial ($50 monthly).
Comcast provided me digital cable with a basic channel set and no dvr, hd, or pay channels. The internet service provided by comcast was 6/384. I was happy with comcast service but felt the pricing was not a good value. ($145)
I was surprised at the value provided by at&t. I have the U300 package which includes tmc, showtime, starz, encore. I also have the hd package which I personally have been happy with. at&t also provides a dvr at no additional cost. My internet package is the 3/1. ($94)
Hope this helps |

| They are but the billing systems are different. Just like the bellsouth area pricing is getting the same and speeds.
Many companies are like that even Verizon was when Fios came out. Hopefully it will all work the same but who knows when.
Just like AT&T wireless has a different billing then POTS and U-Verse. |

If that's a deal-breaker for you, then don't get the service. Complaining here won't change it. |
